As technologies such as blockchain, artificial intelligence and hyper-convergence offer new ways for doing business, the CISO is uniquely positioned to deliver bold, game-changing leadership, engender transformational innovation, and steer the enterprise into the next era of digital business. 

The leadership traits and skills required by technology leaders to help champion customer-centric efforts will be the focal point of the 2018 San Francisco CISO Executive Leadership Summit.


  • Michael Armer
    CISO
    Lam Research Corporation

    Michael Armer leads the Global Information Security organization for Lam Research Corporation. Lam develops innovative solutions that help customers build smaller, faster, more powerful, and more power-efficient electronic devices. Lam revenues are $10B, employing over 10K employees across North America, Europe and Asia.

    As the information security executive for Lam, Michael is responsible for the protection of Lam’s information assets, disaster recovery program, corporate cyber risk posture and cost of protection. Michael oversees the development and execution of Lam’s cyber governance, security architecture, monitoring and incident response programs.

    In this role, Michael has led the company through ISO 27001 certification, invented a patent pending customer collaboration SaaS platform, delivered international IP flow control capability, and institutionalized key risk management process in the areas of supplier and cloud vendor qualification.

    Personally, Michael and his wife have three daughters. In addition to being a dad, Michael’s personal interests include house boating, wake surfing and he is currently pursuing a private pilot’s license.

    Michael has an B.S. in Information Technology and MBA from University of Southern California. He is a CISSP, MCSE and Certified ISO 27001 Auditor.

  • Todd Barnum
    CISO
    GoPro Inc.

    Todd Barnum is the Chief Information Security Officer for GoPro in San Mateo California.  In this role, he leads the information security team, and helps GoPro secure its critical information assets.

    Prior to GoPro, Todd spent time at two consulting firms, KPMG LLP, and Forrester Research.  In both positions Todd led Information Security Consulting Practices.   

    Prior to these consultant gigs, Todd was the Vice President and Chief Information Security Officer at Warner Bros Entertainment in Burbank California.  At the same time Todd also had the pleasure of serving Warner Bros as the Vice President of Enterprise Architecture, and was responsible for architecting and securing the transition from and entirely insourced IT model to one that was entirely outsourced and off-shored. 

    Prior to Warner Bros, Todd spent 8 years at AMGEN, headquartered in Los Angeles where he served as Corporate Director and Chief Information Security Officer. 

    Early in his career, Todd learned the details of information security as a Naval Officer managing some of the Navy’s largest telecommunication systems.  Todd got his Masters in Telecommunications from the United States Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey California, and his Bachelors from the University of Hawaii. 

    Todd is also an Adjunct Professor at California Luther University where he’s taught computer science courses since 2001.  Todd also served as a Board member of the Ventura County YMCA, and was a part Orange County’s Big Brother Big Sister Program.

  • Steve Booth
    VP & Chief Security Officer
    FireEye

    As the Chief Security Officer, Steven Booth is in charge of leading all aspects of IT security at FireEye.  This includes the ongoing development and execution of enterprise-wide security architecture and monitoring programs, as well as technology risk and compliance.  Steven directs the implementation of security controls, standards, policies and procedures to ensure continuous monitoring and protection of information systems and physical property while ensuring that compliance is maintained against both corporate security policies and industry standards.

     

    Prior to joining FireEye, Steven was the AVP of Information Security and CISO at Manulife/John Hancock in Boston, Massachusetts, where he had global responsibility for all IT security in the US, Canada, and 11 countries in Asia.  He previously held the role of Cybersecurity Architect at Microsoft, and ran security operations for VeriSign’s MSSP.  Steven has a B.S. in Business Management from CSUH, and a Master’s degree in Digital Security from Golden Gate University.

  • Husam Brohi
    Cyber Security and Privacy Principal, Strategy and Transformation
    PwC

    Husam is Principal within PwC’s Cybersecurity and Privacy practice.  Husam oversees the delivery of Strategy and Transformation strategies to global software and cloud companies in the Bay Area and Pacific Northwest. He also specializes in:

    • Building and operating data and value driven cyber risk management programs
    • Working with management to elevate the topic of cyber and privacy at the Board level through better oversight and risk reporting
    • Regulatory risk and strategic advice for clients entering new markets and/or transforming operations impacted by global cyber and privacy laws, such as data localization

    Husam also leads PwC’s research and development around Cyber Value at Risk (CyberVaR) models which are designed to measure the economic and business impacts of cyber loss scenarios and return on security investments. 

    He has also served as an interim executive for the security risk and compliance function for a major cloud software provider and has also previously sat on the Financial Services Sector Coordinating Council’s (FSSCC) Cybersecurity committee, working closely with representatives from the public and private sector on national policy issues impacting critical infrastructure.

     

  • Michael Callahan

    Michael is CEO and co-founder of Awake Security and helped to incubate the company within Greylock Partners, where he served as an entrepreneur-in-residence. Previously, Michael was chief technologist for HP StorageWorks Enterprise NAS, joining the company through the acquisition of PolyServe, a big data infrastructure company that he founded and served as CTO. Earlier in his career, Michael was a mathematician working on differential geometry and symplectic topology. He was a Rhodes Scholar and junior research fellow in mathematics at Oxford University and holds a BA in social studies from Harvard University.

  • Jasson Casey

    Jasson Casey serves as chief technology officer and leads the company’s engineering efforts. Casey is an 18- year veteran of the telecom and computer networking industry. Most recently he managed the engineering team for IronNet CyberSecurity, a security startup founded by Gen. (ret) Keith Alexander. He has held executive leadership positions in engineering and product management in startups as well as S&P 500 companies. Casey is an industry- recognized expert in Software-Defined Networking and helped define key technologies in carrier VoIP security and Wireless mobility. He is also a fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, a member of the Software Leadership Council,  and a research associate with the Open Networking Foundation. Casey holds a BSEE from the University of Texas at Austin and is a  PhD candidate in electrical engineering at Texas A&M University.

    Matt Comyns is managing partner of the firm’s Cyber Security Practice and a member of the Stamford office. His focus is on recruiting chief information security officers and next-level-down top lieutenants in information security for large global corporations and fast-growing private companies, as well as cyber security consultants for leading professional services firms and top executives for cyber security technology companies.

    Matt previously co-led Russell Reynolds Associates’ Global Cyber Security Practice, within the firm’s Technology Sector. Prior to joining the executive search industry, he served as CEO of Pacific Epoch, a consulting firm that specializes in market intelligence and research for U.S.-based companies seeking to invest in and expand into China—until the completion of the firm’s sale. Prior to that, he was a founding partner of BlackInc Ventures, a strategic advisory firm providing clients in the digital media sector with leading outsourced solutions for business, sales, and corporate development.

    Before launching BlackInc Ventures in 2004, Matt worked with CNET Networks Inc. for nearly seven years, holding various positions including senior vice president/publisher of News.com, vice president of business development, and director of business development at Snap.com. He has also served as a sales manager for Dow Jones Interactive in Asia and as a founding board member of The Online Publishers’ Association.

    Matt holds a BA in political science from Bucknell University and is conversational in Mandarin. He previously served as a member of the Board of Directors for Music National Service, a national nonprofit organization and movement that supports music as a strategy for public good.

    Mike is a Partner and has more than twenty years of experience in Information Technology Internal Audit, Cybersecurity, Privacy, IT Governance Risk and Compliance, emerging trends and innovation including cloud.  Mike is responsible for PwC’s US Internal Technology Audit Services practice for non-Financial Service companies and is our Cloud Assurance Leader in the US.   Mike is also responsible for PwC's West Region Cybersecurity and Privacy Assurance practice. 

    Mike has provided governance, management, organization design & effectiveness and strategy & planning services to a wide array of industries and firms.  He has a reputation for helping clients anticipate future risks and building productive relationships.  Mike’s primary area of focus today is the strategic program development for internal technology audit, cybersecurity, privacy and IT Risk.  This experience gives him a unique perspective in discussing relevant board considerations, including mitigating related cybersecurity risks.  He’s worked and presented to numerous board and audit committee members on the topic of IT risk and cybersecurity.  

    Mike has a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Indiana University. He is a Certified Public Accountant, Certified Information Systems Auditor, member of AICPA and a member of the Information Systems and Control Association

    Jamey Cummings is a Senior Client Partner in Korn Ferry’s Global Technology Practice. He co-lead’s the Firm’s Global Cybersecurity Practice and is also a member of the Firm’s Information Officers Practice.

    Mr. Cummings is a recognized leader in advising organizations on the recruitment, assessment, development, and retention of information technology as well as information security & risk management talent at all levels, including the Board of Directors. His clients range from large global corporations to high growth entrepreneurial companies, spanning all industries. In addition to Chief Information Officers, Chief Information Security Officers, and their key leaders, he also recruits cybersecurity consultants for leading professional services firms as well as top executives for cybersecurity technology companies and managed security services providers. He is based in the Firm’s Dallas office.

    Prior to Korn Ferry, Mr. Cummings served as an associate principal in the industrial, supply chain, and transportation & logistics practices of another leading executive search firm, where he executed senior executive search assignments for both public and private equity-backed companies. He also served clients in the consumer & retail, technology, government & defense, biotechnology, and education sectors.

    Prior to his career in executive search, Mr. Cummings was a consultant with The Boston Consulting Group in Dallas, where he worked on a wide variety of projects with clients in the aerospace & defense, consumer finance, telecommunications, oil & gas, pharmaceuticals, healthcare and education industries.
    Earlier in his career, he served nine years with distinction as an officer in the U.S. Navy's SEAL teams.

His dual roles span innovation and strategic partnerships, shaping vision/strategy and technology alignment, various technology verticals across product life cycle for cyber security such as product management and business/system analysis, Big Data and visualization engineering, advanced analytics (data science), business intelligence and data warehousing, infrastructure and solution architecture, infrastructure and operations, program/portfolio management, and governance. Before joining Visa, he was part of industry leading organizations in the financial services, telecommunications, insurance, gaming, and airline industries. His stint across different industries and technology functions provides him the unique opportunity to apply and leverage the power of data and analytics. Under his leadership, his team was Data Impact awards finalist at Strata + Hadoop World 2014 for innovation in data ecosystem. Earla is part of the entrepreneurship and innovation program from Stanford Graduate School of Business. He completed Program in strategy from Harvard Graduate School of Business. He holds a master’s degree in computer science from JSU and a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Bangalore University.

His extensive experience includes managing global IT organizations with over 1,200 employees, budgets in excess of $350 million, and IT integration for over 60 mergers and acquisitions. Mark has been repeatedly recognized for his leadership and success in scaling IT organizations to support rapid growth companies.

    Prior to joining StrataFusion, Mark was a CIO at VMware where he led the company from a server virtualization vendor with $2 billion in revenue to a $5 billion market leader of cloud solutions. During his 6 years as CIO at Symantec, Mark’s leadership in IT was instrumental in supporting the company’s transformation from $600 million consumer software publisher to a $5 billion market leader of enterprise security solutions. He held senior level positions with companies in a variety of industries, including Sun Microsystems, Price Waterhouse, and Wells Fargo Bank.

    Mark holds a master’s degree in finance and international business from University of San Diego and a bachelor’s degree in computer sciences from University of Clarion. Mark developed and taught a graduate class, “Building Business Value through IT Innovation”, at the Haas School of Business at University of California at Berkeley.

    Chris Jacquet is Hitachi Data Systems’ vice president, Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) since February 2016. He is responsible for establishing and maintaining a corporate-wide information security program to protect HDS’ information assets. He is identifying, evaluating and reporting on information security risks to meet compliance and regulatory requirements. Chris also leads enterprise security programs including security operations, incident response, vulnerability management, identity management, network security, disaster recovery and risk policies.      An accomplished executive with outstanding security, risk management and compliance expertise, Chris has a proven track record of providing strategic direction and high-touch seamless global support with agility—skills that helps to adjust to rapidly-changing business dynamics.     Previously, Chris was Sr. director of Cloud Security and Compliance Architecture at Marketo Inc., a key vendor of Digital Marketing cloud application. He built and led cross-functional teams to secure Marketo’s software products. Chris’ prior roles include senior director Global IT Security, Compliance, Risk Management and Governance at Symantec, and a 26 years career at Hewlett-Packard where he held several roles associated to security, compliance and risk management in HP’s outsourcing services business unit.    Chris has a marketing certificate from UC Berkeley and an engineering degree in computer science from Institut National des Sciences Appliqués (Lyon, France).

    Prior to founding Cybric, Mike Kail was Yahoo’s CIO and SVP of Infrastructure, where he led the IT and Data Center functions for the company. He has more than 24 years of IT Operations experience with a focus on highly-scalable architectures.

    Prior to joining Yahoo, Mike served as VP of IT Operations at Netflix, where he was responsible for Employee Technology and various Engineering components. Before that role, Mike was VP of IT Operations at Attensity, where he was responsible for the Americas data center operations team; including managing various Big Data systems with their Hadoop cluster, HBase and MongoDB components.

    He has been widely recognized for his insightful industry commentary on social media, and was recently named by the Huffington Post as one of the “Top 100 Most Social CIOs on Twitter.”

    He holds a B.S. in Computer Science from Iowa State University.

    Mike is based in Los Gatos, CA, where he lives with his wife and two sons.

  • Matthew Rosenquist

    Matthew Rosenquist joined Intel Corp in 1996 and benefits from nearly 25 years in the field of security. Mr. Rosenquist specializes in security strategy, measuring value, and developing cost effective capabilities and organizations which deliver the optimal level of security.  Currently, a cyber-security strategist for the Intel Security Group, he helped in the formation of this industry leading organization which brings together security across hardware, firmware, software and services.

    Mr. Rosenquist built and managed Intel’s first global 24x7 Security Operations Center, oversaw several internal platform security products and services, deployed the enterprise intrusion detection program, and was Intel’s first Incident Commander for worldwide IT emergency responses.  He has conducted investigations and risk assessments in defense of corporate assets and managed the security playbook for Intel’s strategy planning group, encompassing all security features landing in the PC architecture.  Mr. Rosenquist ran security for Intel’s multi-billion dollar mergers and acquisitions activities and justified the security strategy protecting Intel’s global manufacturing capability.  His development of the Threat Agent Risk Assessment (TARA) methodology to optimize security, has influenced how organizations view and prioritize risks. 

    Mr. Rosenquist is very active in the industry, speaks at conferences, consults with industry partners, member of advisory boards for cyber education, and has published acclaimed white papers, blogs, and videos on a wide range of information security topics.  He is very passionate about security and information technology, his chosen career path, and strives to blend practical risk mitigation practices and information technology capabilities to achieve an optimal level of security.

    Kathryn Ullrich is a Partner in Odgers Berndtson’s Silicon Valley office and a member of the Technology Practice and leads the Diversity Practice. She focuses on senior executive searches for major corporations and venture-capital-backed companies in software, systems and services, and has specific expertise in AI, autonomous vehicle technology, cloud, cyber security, data analytics, Internet, IoT, and SaaS.

    Prior to joining Odgers Berndtson, Kathryn spent twenty years building her executive search practice at several firms including Heidrick & Struggles, Russell Reynolds Associates and her own Silicon Valley boutique search firm. Earlier in her career, Kathryn worked in software product marketing at Siebel Systems (now Oracle), strategy consulting at Accenture, and engineering at GTE (now Verizon) and Motorola. She is the founder of a Silicon Valley non-profit for women in technology and actively works with clients on increasing diversity in technology.

    Kathryn has a B.S. cum laude in electrical engineering from University of Michigan and an MBA with top honors from UCLA Anderson School of Management.
