Kevin Bowden currently serves as the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) at Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS), and also serves as the CISO for the parent company Huntington Ingalls Industries. Kevin is a second generation shipbuilder with over 31 years at NNS – more than 20 of those years dedicated to cybersecurity through multiple roles and with increasing responsibility.
Kevin was selected in 2004 to be the Sector Information Security Officer for NNS while the company was part of Northrop Grumman, and at time of spin-off in 2011 was designated as the NNS CISO. Since the spin-off, he has been instrumental in reconstructing a cybersecurity function and building a cybersecurity team that includes Governance, Compliance, Training, Identity Management, and a Cyber Network Defense program.
Kevin was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry and Wildlife Management from Virginia Tech, and was awarded a Master of Science degree in Information Security from James Madison University. Kevin holds the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) and the Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) certifications.
