Thomas Sammel (New York) joined KKR in 2017 and is the Head of Cybersecurity. Prior to joining KKR, he was a senior incident management consultant at SecureWorks. While at SecureWorks, Mr. Sammel led teams that conducted breach response, digital forensics, eDiscovery, information risk management, computer security incident response plan development, and incident response training.
Mr. Sammel is also a retired United States Marine with 24 years of military service. During this time, he acquired 17 years of information technology and nine years of cybersecurity expertise for the Marine Corps. He has led efforts to defeat specific attacks that were targeted toward the United States Marine Corps.
Mr. Sammel has been the director of the department of defense computer emergency response team, and was a principle contributor to identifying the nation-state threats facing the United States military. He is also a co-author on the U.S. Department of Defense’s inaugural National Military Strategy for Cyberspace Operations.
Mr. Sammel earned his Masters of Science degree in Information Technology from the University of Maryland, and his Bachelors of Science degree in Chemistry from the State University of New York at Stony Brook.
