    Brian Andrews leads the amazing IT team at Stone Brewing, the 10th largest craft brewer in the United States. Brian’s team at Stone has implemented a series of transformational software and infrastructure platforms to facilitate the company’s growth, team member productivity, and a high degree of operating efficiency and economies of scale. In his 20+ year career, Brian has served in a variety of leadership positions and industries including software, healthcare, and food and beverage. Brian is a San Diego native, earned an MBA from San Diego State University, a Bachelor’s in Economics from UC San Diego, and is a certified PMP. He lives in Carlsbad, CA with his wife and two children.

    Curtis Barker is a Principal Product Manager at Symantec. He has spent the past 8 years in living and working in Singapore where he began his role at Symantec three years ago and has recently relocated to Mountain View, California.

    He has a strong technical and business background and holds a Masters Degree in Electronic Communications Engineering with Business Mgt from the University of Sussex, UK.

    Curtis has spent his career in telecommunications and security. His previous roles include leading Symantec’s mobile product portfolio in APJ and more recently, covering a broader set of Symantec’s offerings as a Product Management leader in Asia Pacific. Curtis brings experience from different roles in EMEA and APJ, including engineering, sales and product management.

  • Tim Burcham
    Lasergen, Inc.

    Dr. Timothy Burcham, PhD has been the Chief Technology Officer of LaserGen, Inc. since March 1, 2016. Specifically, Dr. Burcham was an integral part of the team at Lynx Therapeutics that developed and commercialized the massively parallel signature sequencing technology. Then, he led Genetic Analysis research and development at Applied Biosystems (Life Technologies) where he drove the effort to find, develop and commercialize the SOLiD and 5500 next-generation sequencing systems. Dr. Burcham has experience developing several FDA approved systems and diagnostic assays, and most recently has led the bioinformatics and software development efforts for large, production clinical labs at Sequenom and Trovagene. Dr. Burcham has more than 28 years of experience in the life sciences industry. He has extensive experience in the development of instrumentation for protein and DNA analysis including multiple sequencing systems. Dr. Burcham holds a PhD in Biochemistry & Biophysics from the University of California Davis and completed post-doctoral studies at Stanford University.

    Scott is co-founder and Managing Partner of Diligent Partners, LLC. For 14 years, he held the position of Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at another retained executive search firm based in Southern California. Scott is responsible for our firm’s search operations, client management, and sales and marketing. He also serves as the firm’s Information Technology practice leader. He has managed searches for many leadership roles across such industries as Biotech and Pharmaceuticals, Consumer Products, Financial Services, Healthcare, High Tech, Management Consulting, Medical Device, Manufacturing and Distribution, and Retail. Prior to entering executive search, Scott was a founding Principal at Transition Management Consulting, where he led client engagements in Organizational Assessments, Information Technology Strategy, Architecture and Platform Migration. Scott also was a Managing Consultant at SHL Systemhouse (now EDS). At Gartner Group, Scott was a Managing Director in Consulting Services. Scott began his Gartner career in sales as an Account Executive and then as a National Account Manager.

    Over the years, Scott has developed and formalized a search methodology focused on quality outcomes, and has authored numerous articles on recruiting and retaining top talent, and on interviewing and assessing strategic hires for character, integrity and leadership.

    Scott is a board member and membership chair for the Southern California chapter of Society for Information Management (SIM), the premier not-for-profit organization of information technology experts, including CIOs, CTOs and emerging IT leaders. Since 2010, he also has been a frequent presenter/panelist at CIO summits across the West Coast for HMG Strategy for whom he serves on its Advisory Board.

    Scott has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California Los Angeles, and a certificate from the UCLA Andersen Graduate School’s Managing the Information Resource program.

    Bob Concannon was formerly a Senior Client Partner within the San Francisco office of Korn Ferry and was a member of the Firm’s Global Technology Market. Mr. Concannon has over 30 years of technology executive search experience, leading numerous CIO and CTO searches across industries. He also served on Korn/Ferry's Information Technology Officers Center of Expertise. Furthermore, Mr. Concannon led searches in the software and IT communities on assignments for clients in the areas of cloud, mobility and enterprise software. Venture capitalists and private equity firms looked to his expertise around helping Internet startups migrate to the next executive level as they receive their post Series B and C funding rounds.

    Mr. Concannon served as the managing director of another global executive search firm, leading the technology practice, U.S. Additionally, he led the firm’s global technology vertical for seven years, coordinating worldwide search activity in the technology sector with Fortune 100 top accounts. Previously, Mr. Concannon served in sales and marketing roles for both Pioneer Electronics and Sony Corporation. Mr. Concannon served the Internet industry from its early inception in the 90s by working with then unknown startups Netscape and Yahoo! His portfolio clients have included well-established companies like Microsoft, Oracle, 3Com, Cisco and Nokia, and a host of start-up companies funded by tier-1 venture capital. He has completed over 500 search projects in his career with many of those projects reaching successful IPOs. Published and quoted often in The Wall Street Journal, San Jose Mercury News, CFO and CIO Magazines, as well as being featured twice on ABC’s World News Tonight with Peter Jennings in their Silicon Valley report, Mr. Concannon has served as an expert on Silicon Valley trends for over 15 years. He has been a guest lecturer at The University of California Berkeley and Stanford University. He has a bachelor’s degree from the University of the Pacific.

  • Colonel Pete Dillon

    Principal Cybersecurity Consultant, Redhorse Corporation

    Colonel Pete Dillon is the Former Assistant Chief of Staff, G6, I Marine Expeditionary Force. He graduated from the Virginia Military Institute in 1991 and was commissioned via the NROTC program.  He was assigned as a communications officer at the completion of The Basic School and subsequently reported to the Basic Communications Officer Course.

    In 1992, he reported to 7th Communications Battalion in Okinawa, Japan where he served as the multi-channel platoon commander, Alpha Company.  He reported to the USS Tarawa (LHA-1) in 1993 and assumed duties as the Officer in Charge, Marine Communications Detachment. During this tour he was temporarily assigned as the S6 Alpha, 15thMarine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable).

    He reported to the 1st Marine Division in 1995 and served tours as: S6, 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion; Operations Officer, Communications Company, Headquarters Battalion; S6, 5th Marine Regiment.

    In 1998 he transferred to Quantico and attended the Command and Control Systems Course where he graduated as an honor student.  He was assigned to Marine Forces Pacific (MARFORPAC) in 1999 and assumed responsibilities as the Assistant Operations Officer, Central Command Desk, G6.

    In 2002 he deployed to Bahrain as the G6 Operations Officer, Marine Forces Central Command (MARCENT) in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.  In the summer of 2002 he transferred to Amphibious Group Three, headquartered in San Diego, California where he served as the Officer in Charge, Marine Communications Detachment.

    In 2003 he deployed to Bahrain in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.  He served as the Task Force 51 (Amphibious Task Force) communications liaison officer to 5th Fleet (Combined Forces Maritime Component Commander).

    In 2004 he moved to Tokyo, Japan and assumed duties in the J6 of U.S. Forces Japan, headquartered at Yokota Air Base.  He concluded his tour in 2007 as the branch chief of J62, Operations, Exercises and Plans.  In July 2007 he was directed to report to 1st Marine Aircraft Wing in Okinawa, Japan as the Assistant Chief of Staff, G6.  He served in that capacity for three years.

    In July, 2010 he assumed command of Region 1, Marine Corps Embassy Security Group, responsible for seventeen Marine Security Guard detachments throughout Eastern Europe and Eurasia. He was selected for top level school commencing in 2012 and subsequently served as the Commandant of the Marine Corps’ fellow to the Atlantic Council for 2012-2013. 

    In July 2013 he was assigned to Headquarters Marine Corps, C4 Directorate.  He served as the strategic planning division chief (CS Division) for two years with oversight of all deployable communications systems employed across the Corps.

He actively participates in the San Diego start-up ecosystem through panel discussions, mentoring and educational forums. Eric started his career in hospitality and is an accomplished Sales Leader with 14 years of hotel industry experience working at Doubletree, Marriott and Hilton branded properties in Sonoma, San Francisco and Los Angeles

  • Karen Gibson
    SVP, Digital Health

    Karen Gibson joined Quidel in April, 2015 as the VP of Information Services.   Quidel creates rapid diagnostic tools for the clinical setting.   In this role,  she is focused on streamlining operations and using information and technology to enable new market opportunities.  

    A recognized industry leader,  Karen is passionate about using information technology to improve healthcare and has had roles throughout the life sciences space.    

    Formerly the CIO for McKesson’s Specialty Health division,  Karen’s team provided all IT services for an integrated network of over 500 community-based oncology clinics, specialty pharmacies, and diagnostic laboratories.   Prior to McKesson,  Karen was the first CIO for Life Technologies,  a global life sciences company providing scientific tools for research and drug discovery.   During her tenure, her team successfully implemented a global transformation strategy that included an industry recognized e-commerce system that “consumerized” the purchase of scientific research products.     Before Life Technologies, Karen was the CIO and e-business leader of GE Medical Systems IT – a business that delivered hardware and software solutions to healthcare providers around the world. She ran the IT organization,  as well as a services team providing cloud-based radiology image storage.     Karen has also held leadership roles within other GE divisions and Ethicon Endo-Surgery (a Johnson & Johnson company).

    Karen holds a B.S. in Computer Technology from Purdue University, as well as an M.B.A. from Ohio University.

  • Marshall Heilman

    Mandiant, A FireEye Company

    Marshall Heilman is a Vice President of Mandiant Consulting (a FireEye Company) with over 16 years of experience performing intrusion investigations, red team operations, and general information security; nine of them at Mandiant. He currently has responsibility for Mandiant Consulting services and is responsible for all Incident Response and Red Team operations globally. In this role he is responsible for ensuring the quality and bleeding edge nature of Mandiant’s Incident Response and Red Team services.

    Mr. Heilman’s areas of expertise include enterprise-wide incident responses, high-tech crime investigations, red team operations, and general security architecture. Mr. Heilman has extensive experience working with governments, the defense industrial base, technology industry, financial industry, telecommunications industry, gaming industry, Fortune 500 companies, and global organizations. He has worked many of the most damaging and public incidents companies have experienced over the last seven years. He is routinely invited to speak at security conferences worldwide.

    Prior to Mandiant, Mr. Heilman was a United States Marine where he specialized in information security.

  • John Iannarelli
    Former FBI Special Agent and Senior Executive Advisor

    John G. Iannarelli recently retired from the FBI after more than 20 years of service, during which he was a member of the SWAT Team and participated in the investigations of the Oklahoma City Bombing, the 9/11 attack, and the Congresswoman Gabriel Giffords shooting.  John previously served at FBI Headquarters as their national spokesperson and on the Cyber Division Executive staff.  In Phoenix, John was the Cyber squad supervisor before promotion to Assistant Special Agent in Charge, the number two position overseeing all Criminal, Cyber, and Counter Intelligence investigations throughout Arizona.  John has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Computer Science for his contributions to the field of cyber investigations.

    John is the author of several other books, to include Why Teens Fail and What to Fix, a parents’ guide to protecting their children from Internet predators and other dangers, and Information Governance Security, how businesses can protect their sensitive data from loss or compromise.  His recently released How to Stop A Terrorist, is a guide for the average person to recognize and help prevent terrorism. John is a highly sought after speaker and has presented to Fortune 500 companies, domestic and international audiences, the United Nations, and the Vatican where he met personally with Pope Francis to discuss the evolution of cyber crime.

    A former San Diego Police Officer and a graduate of the University of San Diego School of Law, to include studies of international criminal and civil law at Oxford, England, John is also an attorney admitted to the practice of law in California, Maryland and the District of Columbia. He is currently a private consultant, whose clients have included the both the FBI and a national professional sports league.

  • Mark Kersey
    City of San Diego

    Councilman Mark Kersey represents the City of San Diego's Fifth District. In June 2016, he was reelected to a second term on a platform of rebuilding San Diego's infrastructure, modernizing government and keeping San Diego's economy competitive.

    Mark believes maintaining and improving the City's roads, sidewalks, parks and fire stations is the most pressing issue facing San Diego. As Chair of the Council's Infrastructure Committee, he is helping reform how the city evaluates, prioritizes, and invests in infrastructure. He has successfully advocated for increased infrastructure investment in the general fund and orchestrated the development of San Diego's first comprehensive Multi-Year Infrastructure Investment Plan. He is also the author of the Rebuild San Diego measure which was approved by voters in June 2016. The new law will provide up to $4 billion in dedicated funding for neighborhood improvements.

    Mark is committed to the economic prosperity of San Diego. He has worked to provide economic development incentives to companies looking to expand in San Diego and works continuously to make San Diego the best big city in California for businesses.

    With his high-tech background, Mark is also focused on utilizing technology to empower residents, streamline government and drive civic engagement. He introduced and passed the City's first Open Data Initiative, which makes City data available to the public. Across the country, policies like this have spurred economic development, enhanced civic engagement and improved the way government operates.

    He is also leading a 3-1-1 effort to use technology to provide better customer service to residents. The Get It Done mobile app gives San Diegans a single service point to report potholes, streetlight outages, graffiti and more. The system is also expected to expand to provide a centralized 3-1-1 phone system for non-emergency reports.

    Mark believes improving and investing in public safety is one of the City’s core responsibilities. He is committed to addressing the issues of understaffing and delayed response time and finding solutions that will attract and retain high-caliber personnel. He also wants to make sure first responders are provided with the equipment they need to address challenges creatively and prepare for disasters before they strike.

    Mark also sits on the board for the San Diego Regional Airport Authority, California League of Cities and San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation.

    An alumnus of Northwestern University and the UCLA Anderson Graduate School of Management, Mark is the founder and owner of Kersey Strategies, a technological research firm specializing in the telecommunications and high-tech industries.

    Tony Leng is a Managing Director of Diversified Search and leads the firm’s Digital Transformation and CIO practice from its San Francisco office.  Previously, Tony was Managing Partner of Hodge Partners.     Tony uses his operating experience from being a CEO, financial background as a CPA and CA, and technical knowledge from the work that he has done for Tech companies to drill down and understand at a nuanced level what his clients are seeking to achieve as they build their teams. He has written numerous papers on technology leadership and the challenges facing technology leaders today and authors a blog, ‘Resources for the Modern CIO” (

    The core of Tony’s consulting has been with senior leaders who are seeking to transform their organizations as they face a future of rapid change, digitization, regulation, shifting markets, and increasingly connected and informed customers.

    Drew Martin has been Vice President and Chief Information Officer since November 2016. He was previously Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer for Lytx Inc. (formerly DriveCam) from October 2011 to December 2014. He previously held IT leadership positions with Sony Electronics and PepsiCo, and from January 2015 until November 2016, was owner and a principal in Silicon Beach Advisors, a technology strategy consulting firm. Drew has a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Cornell University and serves on several advisory boards, including the Information Technology Advisory Board for Sharp Healthcare and the Classroom of the Future Foundation. He has over 25 years of experience in corporate IT and innovation.

    Greg McKee is the Chief Executive Officer of CONNECT, a business accelerator focused on creating and scaling great innovative companies across the life science and technology disciplines. With over 25 years of leadership experience in the life sciences and financial services industries, both in the United States and for 9 years overseas, Mr. McKee brings an entrepreneurial, financial and global perspective to CONNECT. Prior to CONNECT, Mr. McKee was chairman, president and chief executive officer of Nventa Biopharmaceuticals, a publicly traded biopharmaceutical company which merged with Akela pharma. Previously, Mr. McKee held senior management roles at Genzyme Corporation which was acquired by Sanofi for over $20 billion, and for UBS. Mr. McKee lived and worked in Tokyo, Japan, for seven years including a two year appointment with the Former Minister of Foreign Affairs, and in Singapore for 2 years. He speaks fluent Japanese. 

    An active member of Young Presidents Organization/World Presidents Organization, Mr. McKee earned a B.A. in Economics from the University of Washington, a M.A. in International Studies from The Joseph H. Lauder Institute and an M.B.A from the Wharton School, at the University of Pennsylvania.

    As Vice President of Global Security for Herbalife, Jana Monroe is responsible for all security functions throughout the company, including Executive Protection, Physical and Cybersecurity, Employee, Facility, and Property security, Investigations, Safety, Business Continuity and Crisis Response.

    Jana joined Herbalife from the multi-billion dollar electric utility company, Southern California Edison Company (SCE), where she was the Chief Security Officer charged with transforming security services for SCE, a major part of the key national infrastructure.  Business Resiliency was her responsibility, including the creation and management of SCE’s Emergency Operation’s Center; Threat Management Program; Information Asset Security; Intelligence and Risk Analysis; Investigations; and Executive Protection. Jana also assumed a leadership role in developing external partnerships with federal, state, and local law enforcement, in addition to forging public/private alliances with security entities in all facets of private industry. 

    Before entering the corporate arena, Jana had a distinguished 22-year career in the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). She held a variety of field investigative and operational roles across the U.S., including five plus years as a “Criminal Profiler” at Quantico, VA. Her career culminated with Jana pioneering as one of few women in the FBI Executive Leadership ranks. She served as Special Agent in Charge (SAC) in Phoenix, Arizona and Los Angeles, California, two of the largest FBI field offices in the U.S.; and was the first Assistant Director of the FBI Cyber Division, based in Washington D.C.;  

    Jana’s awards and recognition include Security 500 Organization (and magazine) 2012 award as One of Five Most Influential Chief Security Officers (CSO) in the United States; inclusion on Information Security magazine’s list of top ten Cybersecurity Leaders in the United States; and YWCA Top Ten Women of the Year.
