    Founding Executive Director
    Year Up

    Jay Banfield is the Founding Executive Director of Year Up Bay Area, a nationally recognized nonprofit organization that prepares low-income young adults for entry-level IT roles through its one-year intensive education and internship program.

    Jay has extensive experience in both the private and public sector. He began his career at Oracle Corporation, where he participated in the launch of the Clinton Administration’s AmeriCorps program. Jay has also worked on local, state and national political campaigns and has served as Assistant Treasurer for the City and County of San Francisco and Assistant General Manager at the SF Public Utilities Commission. Jay received his BA from Stanford and Master in Public Policy (MPP) from UC Berkeley. He lives in San Francisco with his wife and 3 children.

    Scott is co-founder and Managing Partner of Diligent Partners, LLC. For 14 years, he held the position of Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at another retained executive search firm based in Southern California. Scott is responsible for our firm’s search operations, client management, and sales and marketing. He also serves as the firm’s Information Technology practice leader. He has managed searches for many leadership roles across such industries as Biotech and Pharmaceuticals, Consumer Products, Financial Services, Healthcare, High Tech, Management Consulting, Medical Device, Manufacturing and Distribution, and Retail. Prior to entering executive search, Scott was a founding Principal at Transition Management Consulting, where he led client engagements in Organizational Assessments, Information Technology Strategy, Architecture and Platform Migration. Scott also was a Managing Consultant at SHL Systemhouse (now EDS). At Gartner Group, Scott was a Managing Director in Consulting Services. Scott began his Gartner career in sales as an Account Executive and then as a National Account Manager.

    Over the years, Scott has developed and formalized a search methodology focused on quality outcomes, and has authored numerous articles on recruiting and retaining top talent, and on interviewing and assessing strategic hires for character, integrity and leadership.

    Scott is a board member and membership chair for the Southern California chapter of Society for Information Management (SIM), the premier not-for-profit organization of information technology experts, including CIOs, CTOs and emerging IT leaders. Since 2010, he also has been a frequent presenter/panelist at CIO summits across the West Coast for HMG Strategy for whom he serves on its Advisory Board.

    Scott has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California Los Angeles, and a certificate from the UCLA Andersen Graduate School’s Managing the Information Resource program.

  • Greg Cannan
    Divisional Information Officer
    Toyota Connected North America

    Greg Cannan is the Divisional Information Officer (DIO), Corporate Services within the Information Systems Department of Toyota North America, responsible for the maintenance and development of applications within Toyota. Greg’s responsibilities cover Corporate Service Systems like Human resources, Legal, Corporate Communications, Corporate Giving and Compliance.

    Greg joined Toyota in 1988 as a project lead for the development of the new Lexus Dealer Allocation System and, as such, has been with Toyota since the birth of Lexus!

    Greg has led a number of major projects at TMS, including the implementation of PeopleSoft, i2 Demand Management for Service Parts, the Toyota Vehicle Ordering Management System and Telematics.

    More recently, Greg has been able to lead the charge of embracing Cloud Computing with the implementation of such systems as WorkDay, Box and the utilization of Microsoft’s Azure Cloud for Toyota’s Connect Vehicle solutions.

    Today, Greg and his team are very busy preparing systems for Toyota’s move to Plano, Texas.

  • Shawn Henry
    President of CrowdStrike Services and CSO

    Shawn Henry is the president of CrowdStrike Services and CSO and a retired executive assistant director of the FBI. Henry, who served in three FBI field offices and at the bureau's headquarters, is credited with boosting the FBI's computer crime and cybersecurity investigative capabilities. He oversaw computer crime investigations spanning the globe, including denial-of-service attacks, bank and corporate breaches, and state-sponsored intrusions. He posted FBI cyberexperts in police agencies around the world, including the Netherlands, Romania, Ukraine and Estonia. He has appeared on "60 Minutes," "CBS Evening News," "Good Morning America," "The Today Show," "Dateline," "Rock Center with Brian Williams" and C-SPAN. He has been interviewed by Forbes, BusinessWeek, The Wall Street Journal, the Associated Press and USA Today. Henry earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Hofstra University and a master's degree in criminal justice administration from Virginia Commonwealth University.



  • Rick Hopfer
    Chief Information Officer

    Rick is a recognized technology leader with over 25 years’ experience leading large, complex organizations in multiple industries around the globe.  He is the recipient of awards including 2014 CIO of the Year and inducted into the 2017 CIO Hall of Fame. As the Chief Information officer at Molina Healthcare, Rick leads the information and security technology department to align enterprise objectives, programs, and strategies. He has partnered with the business leadership on digital, analytic and innovation initiatives. Prior to Molina, Rick was the CIO for Sony Pictures Entertainment, a large global media company. As CIO and CTO International for, and prior to Sony Pictures, he was part of the executive team that took the company public in 2001. He has held senior IT leadership positions at Simon and Schuster, Lehman Brothers, Bankers Trust and Aetna Life and Casualty, among others. He holds a bachelor's degree in computer information systems from Arizona State University and attended executive leadership programs and the New School in NYC, Stanford and Harvard Business School.   He serves on the board of multiple non-profit organizations and associations.

  • John Iannarelli
    Former FBI Special Agent and Senior Executive Advisor

    John G. Iannarelli recently retired from the FBI after more than 20 years of service, during which he was a member of the SWAT Team and participated in the investigations of the Oklahoma City Bombing, the 9/11 attack, and the Congresswoman Gabriel Giffords shooting.  John previously served at FBI Headquarters as their national spokesperson and on the Cyber Division Executive staff.  In Phoenix, John was the Cyber squad supervisor before promotion to Assistant Special Agent in Charge, the number two position overseeing all Criminal, Cyber, and Counter Intelligence investigations throughout Arizona.  John has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Computer Science for his contributions to the field of cyber investigations.

    John is the author of several other books, to include Why Teens Fail and What to Fix, a parents’ guide to protecting their children from Internet predators and other dangers, and Information Governance Security, how businesses can protect their sensitive data from loss or compromise.  His recently released How to Stop A Terrorist, is a guide for the average person to recognize and help prevent terrorism. John is a highly sought after speaker and has presented to Fortune 500 companies, domestic and international audiences, the United Nations, and the Vatican where he met personally with Pope Francis to discuss the evolution of cyber crime.

    A former San Diego Police Officer and a graduate of the University of San Diego School of Law, to include studies of international criminal and civil law at Oxford, England, John is also an attorney admitted to the practice of law in California, Maryland and the District of Columbia. He is currently a private consultant, whose clients have included the both the FBI and a national professional sports league.

    As CIO of United Talent Agency (UTA) Michael Keithley is responsible for all technology at the agency. In addition to managing the Information Technology department, Michael is active in corporate consulting, venture funding and strategic advisory services to companies ranging from start-ups to Fortune 500 companies. Michael’s strong ties to Silicon Valley’s venture capital firms uniquely position him to be able to peer around the corner on how technology is going to change business models and to shape the future of work and play. Prior to UTA, Michael served as the Chief Information Officer at Creative Artists Agency for 25 years.

  • Joel Manfredo

    Joel Manfredo is the Chief Information Officer at the Motion Picture Industry Pension & Health Plans. In this role, Joel is responsible for all aspects of information technology (IT) including strategy and architecture, infrastructure and operations, business application delivery, the project management office, and IT administration and security.

    Prior to joining the Plans, Joel served as the Chief Technology Officer for the County of Orange in California, in the Chief Information Officer role for The Irvine Company, and in other Chief Information Officer and Chief Technology Officer roles since the mid-1990s.  Joel is kown for successful transformations both in business roles and in technical roles.

    Joel has served on many non-profit Boards including the Society of Information Management, Executive Next Practices Institute, UCLA’s IS Associates, CleanTech OC, Realcomm, Access Executive Network, and the Trojan Club of South Orange County.  Joel was the founding chairman of UC Irvine’s CIO Roundtable (The Paul Merage School of Business) and further served UCI on the Dean’s Leadership Circle for the School of Information and Computer Sciences (ICS) and as the Chairman of the Corporate Committee for ICS and for the School of Engineering.  Joel also was a mentor in both UCI’s and Chapman’s MBA programs.

    I've spent the last 25 years working in technology and the last 12 as a senior technology executive in the financial services industry. 

    In 2008 I joined the founding team of a BlackRock backed financial services start-up called PennyMac. The venture has grown to become a prominent player in residential finance and valued at over $1.4B. PennyMac completed an IPO in 2013 (NYSE:PFSI). 

    In my current role I lead the enterprise-wide technology organization, providing technology vision, strategic direction and management for the company’s IT Infrastructure & Risk Management activities. I am also oversee cybersecurity as CISO. 

    Prior to PennyMac, I’ve worked for Bank of America (Countrywide) leading the technology innovation practice, co-founded a technology startup (acquired by a large internet company), and served in the IDF’s Intelligence Unit 8200.

    Rob Pickering is an Executive Consultant with more than 20 years of experience within IT Leadership across the Telecommunications, Travel, and Consulting industries.  Rob has been with ServiceNow for over 4 years, where he has had roles in the Chief Innovation Office, Customer Success, and most recently the Inspire team.  

    Prior to joining ServiceNow, Rob spent 10 years with AAA (Allied Group) as CIO where he implemented ServiceNow in 2013, initially for Portfolio and Project Management, and rapidly modernized their IT operations.  He then adopted the platform for the Digital Transformation of all AAA business practices through the use of Enterprise Service Management by extending the ServiceNow platform outside of IT and into seven other business lines where ServiceNow helped to streamline their business operations and become a Single System of Action for the AAA enterprise.  Finally, he was able to move the AAA organization to a greater focus on Innovation with a concentration in new Business Services delivered to members.  Prior to AAA, Rob ran Internet Operations for Cincinnati Bell Telephone (6 years), and the Development Practice at WhittmanHart Consulting (2 years).

    Rob has certifications in ITIL, ServiceNow (Administration, Development, ITSM Implementation, and Event Management Implementation), Splunk, Security Penetration Testing, Unix Operating systems, macOS, Human Centered Design, and Situational Leadership.

    Rob has a Bachelor of Science in Systems Analysis and Computer Science from Miami University.

    Rob lives in San Jose with his wife, Deb, 9 year-old son Trip, and new “Covid puppy” Sunny.  When not delivering for customers and internal teams, Rob enjoys SCUBA diving (certified Rescue Diver), Home Automation, reading, and Bourbon (not in that order).  He recently completed two back-to-back sessions of #75hard, which resulted in his losing over 35 lbs. since March and reading 25 books.  Ask him about it. 

  • Jim Randall
    Deputy US CISO & Network Head of Cyber Security

    Jim Randall is the IFS Head of Cyber Security.  In this capacity he is responsible for the transformation and operation of the full range of cyber practices, including: threat intelligence and monitoring, CSIRT Readiness, application security, vulnerability management, data privacy and cyber defense systems management.

    Mr. Randall's accomplishments include:  establishing follow-the-sun security hubs in APAC, Europe and the Americas with over 120 personnel across three primary centers; in-sourcing the administration of 90 internet gateways from seven outsourcing partners; reducing systems change defects from 10-per-1,000 changes to 2-per-1,000 changes; and saving $2M annually through re-structured operations.  

    Prior to joining Zurich in 2011, Jim spent 12 years with security software and services provider, Symantec, where he advised enterprises on IT risk management practices, and planned the structure and training of their operations teams to arrive at sustainable performance, while still delivering the value of the security controls.  Key programs defined include: PCI compliance, vulnerability management, and global incident management and response execution.  

    Mr. Randall is the prior Chairman of the Midwest chapter of the IT Security Council, and is a current member of the International Association of Privacy Professionals and the Information Systems Audit and Control Association, and an active member of the Chicago CISO forum.  

    He has a bachelor’s degree from Illinois State University, with a major in Accounting and honors colloquium study in information systems, and lives in Chicago with his wife of 15 years, Nancy, and their four children.

  • Ram Reddy
    VP Global IT

    Ram Reddy is the VP of Global IT for Dermalogica (a subsidiary of Unilever).  Dermalogica is a leader in the skin care products category.   Prior to Dermalogica, Ram was the VP for IT Strategy and Projects at Jacobs Engineering Corporation (JEC). He was awarded Computerworld’s “Premier 100 IT Leaders” award in 2015 for helping implement a “follow the sun” IT support model for Jacobs’ global work force. 

    Ram held multiple IT leadership positions – Chief Enterprise Architect, Director of Enterprise Application at SAIC (a major Aerospace/Defense services firm).  Ram worked with senior executives such as - CFO, SVP HR, BD, and Operations - to deliver and maintain IT applications in support of their business operations.  

    Earlier, Ram was the president of Tactica Consulting Group, a technology and business strategy consulting firm. He has advised Fortune 500 firms on strategic use of technology, restructuring the IT function for competitive agility, customer relationship management, and supply chain systems.   Before Tactica, Ram was the CIO of a Tier 1 supplier in the automotive sector.

    Ram’s work experience spans industries in manufacturing, contingent staffing, mass merchandising, procurement, and financial services. Ram is the author of Supply Chains to Virtual Integration (McGraw-Hill, 2001) and has written extensively on realizing strategic business goals through information technology.

    John Rossman is Managing Partner, Rossman Partners. With more than 28 years of technology strategy, design, implementation and operating experience, Mr. Rossman has led several complex businesses and programs resulting in innovative business models. He has worked with clients across a broad range of industries including retail, insurance, education, forest products, industrial products and transportation.

    John Rossman is the author of The Amazon Way: 14 Leadership Principles of the World’s Most Disruptive Company and is an expert on digital disruption and assisting his clients to build and execute new business models.

    He has served as the Senior Technology Adviser to the world’s largest philanthropy for more than three years, assisting in strategy and execution of complex data, technology integration, IP and multi-party program management initiatives that help to improve student outcomes.

    He has also assisted multiple retail and service companies with their multi-channel strategies and execution. These assignments include definition of strategic outcomes, process and technology architecting, process scaling assessments and implementations and managing significant cultural and organizational leadership change tied to multi-channel strategies.

    John Rossman served as the interim CIO for a large rental business retailer and helped implement multiple cost reduction and service improvement programs.

    Before joining A&M, Mr. Rossman was Director of Enterprise Services at, managing worldwide services to enterprise clients such as, Toys R Us,, Marks and Spencer and the National Basketball Association (NBA). In this role, he had full operational and technical ownership for existing clients, overseeing e-commerce solutions such as online merchandising capability, website technologies, branded fulfillment delivery and branded customer service.

    As Director of Merchant Integration at, he was responsible for developing the Merchants @ program, one of the largest B2B networks with thousands of sellers, offering products in new categories such as apparel, sporting goods, consumer electronics, health and beauty and home.

    Previously, he was a partner with Arthur Andersen Business Consulting.

    Mr. Rossman earned a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from Oregon State University.

    Margot Sharapova was formerly the VP IT Quality & Operations for OptumRx. In this capacity, Margot drove customer reliability, software quality engineering, and IT continuous improvement.  

    Margot has extensive professional experience in the information technology and healthcare industries, previously serving as the chief information officer (CIO) with AECOM, Americas. She spent a number of years at GE serving as the CIO for GE Healthcare Medical Diagnostics, GE Aero Energy, GE Nuclear and GE Hydro where she drove profit and loss (P&L) transformation and technology strategy and delivery.

    Margot holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Dartmouth College and is a certified Six Sigma Black Belt.

    Tim founded and is the President/CEO of Tekexecs, Innovatects and CXOCo – a complementary set of business strategy, innovation, talent, and technology focused advisory services and equity investment for select growth companies.  He is also actively involved in several public and private company board of directors and advisory roles, and as an angel and venture capital investor in a variety of innovative companies.  Tim is also an Adjunct Professor at the Merage School of Business at UCI – where he created and co-teaches EDGE a Capstone MBA/Exec MBA course focused on globalization, innovation & technology as strategic catalysts for business transformation.  He has also been active in launching and leading the Center for Digital Transformation (CDT) at the University of California Irvine (UCI) which brings industry leading CXOs, innovative startups and renowned academic experts together to explore the strategies, opportunities and challenges facing business leaders in a more technology dependent and digitally driven world. Tim was named Information Week’s “Chief of the Year” for his unique Innovation, Business and IT roles and achievements. He has also been recognized as one of InfoWorld’s “Top 25 CTOs,” Interactive Week’s “Top 25 Unsung Heroes of the Internet”, received CIO’s “100 Innovators Award” and CIO Insight’s “Partners in Alignment” award for his successful linkage of business strategy and technology. Tim has also received multiple the “CIO 100” awards; Computerworld’s “Best Places to Work in IT” for nine consecutive years; and the American Business Awards “Best MIS & IT Organization”. He holds an MBA in International Business and Technology Management from the Thunderbird Graduate School of Management and Arizona State University, and a BS degree in Engineering from the University of Washington. He is also an Alumni of the AACSB ‘Bridge’ program to prepare executives for academia, and other professional and executive education programs at Stanford, MIT and Babson. Tim has lived, worked and traveled extensively throughout the US, Europe, Latin America and Asia throughout his career, and after the HMG Summit will be embarking on another extended trip to Europe, the middle east and Asia to close out 2014 and prepare and share his observations and insights for 2015.

    Kim Terry for 5 ½ years was the Chief Information Officer at Guthy-Renker LLC in Santa Monica. December 2015 brought to a close a successful three-year effort to modernize Guthy-Renker’s core order processing systems, moving from a batch mainframe to a real time ecosystem of applications. This technology transformation has empowered change throughout the organization, freeing the company to make significant advancements in its operations.

    As of January 2016, Kim assumed broader responsibilities as Executive Vice President & CIO for a new Guthy-Renker spin-off company named OceanX, LLC.

    The mission of OceanX is to “Power the Membership Economy” with subscription order processing, customer experience call center services, nationwide fulfillment facilities, complex credit handling services and advanced “big data” customer intelligence insights. OceanX delivers this turnkey functionality as outsourced services for companies wishing to create or expand a "Direct to Consumer" subscription channel for their business.

    Prior to OceanX, Kim also held IT leadership positions at Everbridge, LLC, Jafra Cosmetics and spent many years leading technology adoption across multiple business units at Transamerica Corporation.

    Jay Tucker is a marketer, educator, and technology leader with over 20 years of experience in the technology, academic and entertainment sectors. In his current role, Jay represents the Institute for Communication Technology Management (CTM) – one of the Centers of Excellence at USC's Marshall School of Business – where he is responsible for communicating the Institute's thought leadership and major initiatives to CTM's consortium members and the larger community. Jay also heads CTM's executive education programs and forums.

    In fall 2012, Jay launched Silicon Beach @ USC, a conference focused on entrepreneurship in southern California and the future of digital entertainment. The event featured a $50,000 venture competition recognizing innovation in technology and digital content. Now in its third year, Silicon Beach @USC attracts over 500 business executives, entrepreneurs, investors and students. Jay also redesigned the Advanced Management Program, CTM's flagship five-day educational experience for rising leaders and helped to co-author the current strategic plan for USC's Marshall School of Business.

    As a seasoned technology leader, Jay is passionate about helping executives and entrepreneurs embrace disruption, drive innovation, and build powerful solutions. Jay advises a number of start-ups on business strategy, business development, marketing and operations. He speaks at academic and industry events, covering digital technologies and media, technology start-ups and other topics. He has also taught courses on technology management, digital media, and media literacy to professionals at corporations and non-profit organizations.

    Jay holds an MBA in Marketing & Media Management from the UCLA Anderson School of Management, an MA in Instructional and Learning Technologies from Columbia University, and a dual Bachelors degree from Stanford University in Political Science and African & Afro-American Studies.
