Because digital transformation is a journey, the CIO and other members of the C-suite must recognize that new technologies and emerging innovations represent continual change. As technologies such as blockchain, artificial intelligence and hyper-convergence offer new ways for doing business, the CIO is uniquely positioned to deliver bold, game-changing leadership, engender transformational innovation, and steer the enterprise into the next era of digital business. 

The leadership traits and skills required by technology leaders to help champion customer-centric efforts will be the focal point of the 2017 Detroit CIO Executive Leadership Summit.


  • Steven Ambrose
    VP & CIO
    DTE Energy

    Steven B. Ambrose is vice president and chief information officer for DTE Energy (NYSE: DTE), a Detroit-based diversified energy company involved in the development and management of energy-related businesses and services nationwide. Its operating units include an electric utility serving 2.1 million customers in Southeastern Michigan and a natural gas utility serving 1.2 million customers in Michigan. The DTE Energy portfolio includes non-utility energy businesses focused on power and industrial projects, natural gas pipelines, gathering and storage, and energy marketing and trading. As one of Michigan's leading corporate citizens, DTE Energy is a force for growth and prosperity in the 450 Michigan communities it serves in a variety of ways, including philanthropy, volunteerism and economic progress.

    Ambrose is responsible for securing, operating, and applying the company’s information technology assets toward achieving the company’s strategic objectives.

    Prior to his current role, Ambrose was director of Enterprise Performance Management where he was responsible for the oversight of corporate performance, and served as the chief of staff to the CEO where he coordinated various corporate-wide initiatives.

    Ambrose joined DTE Energy in 1998 and served in a variety of progressively more  responsible information technology (IT) roles including the oversight of the company’s enterprise business systems, the IT operations of DTE Energy’s non-utility affiliates, and the stewardship of the company’s IT strategy and enterprise architecture.

    Ambrose earned an MBA with high distinction from the University of Michigan, a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, a master’s certificate in management information systems from the University of Southern California, and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Bellevue College.

    Ambrose serves on the board of directors of TechTown and Powerley.

  • Renee Arrington

    • Renee Arrington offers clients over 20 years’ experience in retained executive search. She is a member of the Pearson Partners board of directors and leads the firm’s Fort Worth office and CIO and IT leadership practice with clients in technology, retail, financial services, business services, distribution and R&D.   • Tom Blessing
    Managing Director, Retail and Trading Group
    TD Ameritrade

    Tom Blessing is the Managing Director of the Retail and Trading technology team at TD Ameritrade.  He is responsible for product team engagement, solution delivery, and application support for the retail and trading web and mobile customer platforms, including Trade Architect and Thinkorswim.

    Tom was the CIO of the Corporate Technology Group at Fidelity Investments from 2011 to 2016.  Tom joined Fidelity in 2008 as part of their IT Transformation initiative, and from 2009 to 2011 he led the Finance, Procurement, and Accounting Information Technology group.  Prior to joining Fidelity, Tom spent seven years at Ford Motor Company where he held several IT leadership positions in product development, strategy and organizational development, manufacturing, and human resources/health care.  Tom began his career in the defense and automotive systems fields and has over 10 years of experience in roles from technical contributor to program management.

    Tom holds a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Michigan.  He also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical and computer engineering from Wayne State University.

  • Mamatha Chamarthi
    CIO, North America and Asia Pacific

    Mamatha Chamarthi was appointed Chief Information Officer, FCA - North America and Asia Pacific effective April 2019. In this position, Chamarthi oversees all information technology applications and infrastructure in support of business units located in the United States, Canada, Mexico and Asia Pacific.  

    Previously, Chamarthi was Senior Vice President & Chief Digital Officer for ZF Friedrichshafen AG since 2014. In this position, she was responsible for the Company’s full range of digital strategies and for driving change across the organization, including establishing a global footprint to create a talent ecosystem that will close the technology gap for ZF to be a leader in autonomous driving.

    Chamarthi holds a Master of Business Administration from the Kellogg School of Business at Northwestern University (2008), a Master of Science in Computer Science & Software Engineering from Oakland University (2003), a Masters Certificate in Project Management from the George Washington University (2002), a Master of Business Administration from SV University (1995) and a Master of Arts in English from Osmania University (1990).

  • Matthew Clayson

    Matthew Clayson leads, launches and scales outcome driven organizations and innovative initiatives.   He specializes in developing metric driven marketing and communications strategies that mobilize influencers and connect in-market consumers to brands, products and communities.

    Currently, Matthew is Vice President and General Counsel at Detroit Trading Company, where he leads digital compliance and supports strategic growth programs and partnerships.   Previously, Matt was the inaugural Executive Director of the Detroit Creative Corridor Center, where he developed and led a strategy to increase the economic output of Detroit’s creative industries tenfold and have Detroit designated as the first UNESCO City of Design in the United States.  He simultaneously served as an Executive Consultant to Shinola, leading Shinola’s Detroit-based activities to establish and grow operations in 2011, 2012 and 2013.

    Passionate about his community, Detroit and international economic policy, Matt is a drafter of the Detroit Declaration and a founding member of Michigan Children’s Leadership Council. He serves on the boards for the Connected Detroit Innovates Network, the Michigan Design Council, the Urban Manufacturing Alliance and the Transatlantic Core Group.  He has been invited as a frequent speaker on topics on innovation and entrepreneurship for The Aspen Institute, The Atlantic Council, the German Marshall Fund, the University of Michigan Ross School of Business, Michigan State University Prima Civitas Foundation, the Turkish Resource Center of North America, the BMW Foundation and the Robert Bosch Foundation.  

    Matt earned his Juris Doctor from Wayne State University in Detroit, specializing in intellectual property and business transactions.  He earned dual Bachelor of Arts degrees in International Relations and Political Theory from Michigan University’s Honors College, with minors in Western European Relations and French, and completed additional coursework focusing on the political and economic structures of the European union and North Atlantic Treaty Organisation at the Universite Libre de Bruxelles in Brussels, Belgium.  He is proficient in French (reading, writing and speaking), has a basic understanding of German (reading), was recognized by Crain’s Detroit Business as a 20 in their 20’s for his work in leading the region’s “Get in the Game” public information campaign for Super Bowl XL and is a 2016 Marshall Memorial Fellow.

    Charles is Chief Technology Officer of Turbonomic. In this role he contributes to product strategy, evangelizes the Turbonomic technology, and supports its strategic sales and business development efforts. Prior to joining Turbonomic, Charles held senior executive positions at several technology startups including Cirba, Mformation Technologies, Opalis Software, and Cybermation. Opalis was acquired by Microsoft in 2009 and is now Microsoft System Center Orchestrator, a key technology in Microsoft’s data center platform. Cybermation was acquired by CA Inc. in 2006 and is now CA Workload Automation ESP/DE, part of the market leading CA Workload Automation portfolio.

    Subsequent to the Cybermation acquisition Charles joined CA as SVP Development responsible for the entire workload automation portfolio representing more than $200M in annual revenue and used by more than 80% of the Fortune 500. Earlier in his career he held various positions in software development, consulting, and education. Charles holds a Bachelor of Mathematics degree from the University of Waterloo, Canada.

  • Rajiv Das

    Rajiv Das is a senior Information Technology leader with broad-based management consulting experience who specializes in transforming organizations. He accelerates organization performance by defining strategies that align IT with the business, and driving large scale program implementations, technology integration, involving cross-functional, multi-vendor, and teams with large operating budgets. Collaborative & Innovative business partner who builds, and motivates highly successful teams and leaders to exceed customer expectations.

    He has delivered large scale programs as Delivery Executive (healthcare), transformed organization as CIO (Chief Information Officer – Teamster Welfare Fund), delivered business strategy & center of excellence for agencies as General Manager at State of Michigan. In addition, he also is an adjunct faculty at School of Business at Oakland University, Rochester Hills, Michigan teaching graduate level courses on “Big Data”. His expertise spans over finance, healthcare and public sector verticals for large scale system integration, ERP implementation, business intelligence operation, etc.

    In his current role as Chief Security officer for State of Michigan, he is member of the senior IT Leadership team reporting to Chief Information Officer, as part of Department of Technology, Management and Budget. Rajiv is responsible for the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of State of Michigan information and IT assets as well as the following key assignments -

    • Develop & deliver the tactical and strategic plan initiatives for cyber and infrastructure security
    • Collaborate with state, federal and corporate partners for cyber security initiatives

    Rajiv is an alumnus of Michigan State University – Eli Broad College of Business where he earned his MBA and is a resident of Okemos, Michigan.

    Johnny Dranchak is the CTO,  CoreTech App Studio at General Electric.  Prior to joining GE, Johnny was the  CTO and VP of WSJ Digital at Dow Jones.  As a consultant he has led Agile Transformations for MTV/Nickelodeon, KPMG, Macy's, JP Morgan, Mizuho and Subway. Johnny has also been responsible for architecting and building large scale systems for clients such as Nestle, Bank of America and Microsoft.

    Tom has been Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer of Perrigo Company plc, since October 2006. He has also overseen Perrigo’s Corporate Social Responsibility program, Global M&A Integration, and Perrigo’s E-Commerce business unit since 2010.

    During his tenure at Perrigo, Tom has led the company’s integration efforts over 27 acquisitions resulting in expansion into more than 35 countries, built out a global shared services platform, launched the company’s direct to consumer sales breaking into new markets and innovative retail opportunities, and has gained end consumer insights relative to over the counter healthcare purchases.

    Perrigo is a leading global healthcare supplier that develops, manufactures and distributes over-the-counter (OTC) and generic prescription pharmaceuticals, infant formulas, nutritional products, active pharmaceutical ingredients, and pharmaceutical and medical diagnostic products.  Perrigo is the world’s largest store brand manufacturer of OTC pharmaceutical products and infant formulas.

    Prior to Perrigo Tom served as Chief Information Officer for the F. Dohmen Co. and served as a division President for JASCORP LLC. Prior to that he held various senior positions in information technology and finance at Dell and BP Amoco.

    Kay Fuhrman focuses on senior level search assignments in the Energy and Utility sectors and serves in the Industrial practice. Prior to joining Heidrick & Struggles, Kay spent over 8 years as Vice President of Business Development for Alliance Data leading large scale outsourcing sales pursuits with energy and utility companies throughout North America. In this role, Kay also managed the company’s strategic partnerships with technology and key service providers leveraged for the delivery of Alliance Data’s solutions.     Sonny Hashmi is the Managing Director of Global Government Strategy at Box. In his role, Sonny is responsible for developing and executing a go- to Market strategy for Box within global public sectors, and represents Box as a cloud computing thought-leader in government. Sonny also serves as part of the Editorial Advisory board for GovernmentCIO magazine, and works for Federal, State and Local and international government customers on cloud and mobility strategy. 

    Prior to joining Box, Sonny served as the Chief Information Officer (CIO) and the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA).  Since joining GSA in 2011, Sonny managed the agency's $600 million Information Technology (IT) budget and ensuring alignment with agency and the administration's strategic objectives, information security and enterprise architecture. Sonny led several technology initiatives at GSA, that leveraged emerging technologies to modernize and improve GSA operations. He also provided oversight of GSA’s IT projects, implemented the digital government strategy and was a major force towards adoption of cloud for GSA’s email, collaboration and applications as well as creating agile practices for cloud development.

    Sonny has also served as the CTO for the District of Columbia, Office of the Chief Financial Officer. He championed and successfully delivered many initiatives including large system modernization projects, implementation of a District-wide business intelligence platform for agency financial management and oversaw business process automation. Sonny also worked for private sector organizations leading large scale initiatives for federal, state and local government agencies.

    Sonny is active in the federal IT community. He received the 2013 Federal 100 award for Digital Government Innovation - as a “cloud expander.”

    Other awards include his team’s win of the 2011 GCN award for (Cloud) Enterprise E-mail and Collaboration, and as a finalist for the prestigious Samuel J.     Linglong He is the Chief Information Officer of Quicken Loans Inc.  With more than 20 years of experience within technology, Linglong is responsible for the overall vision and leadership for technology initiatives across the business. Since joining the company in 1996, Linglong has served in many roles, including Director of Database and Systems Engineering, Software Engineer, Oracle DBA, Progress DBA and as a UNIX System administrator. Technology drives the business at Quicken Loans. The company placed in the top-15 of Computerworld magazine’s “100 Best Places to Work In Technology” for the past nine years, ranking #1 in 2013, 2007, 2006 and 2005. Quicken Loans ranked highest in “customer satisfaction” among all home lenders in the United States for the fourth consecutive year in a benchmark study of mortgage origination by J.D. Power in 2013, 2012, 2011 and 2010. Linglong is a founding member of “Experience IT” alongside other other Detroit technology leaders. The program aims to provide continued education, work experience and job opportunities for IT professionals and college students as they advance their technology careers. Linglong has a strong passion for developing leaders and is actively involved with the Michigan Council of Women in Technology (MCWT)  and the We Build Character organizations.  She also currently sits on the board for the Asian Pacific American Chamber of Commerce (APACC) and has won the Crain’s Detroit Business CIO Award in 2013. Prior to joining Quicken Loans, Linglong taught Civil Engineering for seven years in China. She earned her Master’s degree in Software Engineering from the University of St. Thomas, and a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from Wuhan University.   • Lesley Ma

    As Cadillac’s global CIO, Lesley and her team are instrumental in driving the Brand’s aggressive transformation.  This requires a laser focus on producing innovation that gives Cadillac an edge with technology savvy Millennial and Gen Z consumers. Cadillac recruited Lesley back to the USA from the company’s International region in 2012.  While overseas, Lesley was based in Shanghai, China for 3 years where she led the Purchasing, Supply Chain and the Sales and Marketing Systems functions for China and 140 other markets.  Her work included bridging the technology strategies and data foundations needed with Chinese joint ventures, business partners and other wholly-owned entities in the international division.  Prior to that, she worked in various leadership roles to lead large scale IT transformations of order fulfillment, purchasing and infrastructure services.  Her experience also involved mergers, acquisitions, outsourcing, and insourcing - all at a global scale.

    In June 2018, Lesley was honored by Ascend’s New York Chapter with their Trailblazer Award.  Ascend is the largest non-profit serving the Asian executive and leadership community.  In April 2019, she received the Pace University, Siedenberg School’s Innovative Leadership Award.  She continues to work with Ascend, Catalyst, National Association of Female Executives (member of their Top Executive Roundtable), and other notable groups on their initiatives to promote and sponsor Asians and Women into corporate roles.  She is a co-founder of Women in Technology Executive Group (WinTEG) which strives to elevate the impact and visibility of senior women leaders as advisors to large businesses, start-ups and educational institutions.

    Christopher Mandelaris was formerly the Vice President, Chief Information Security Officer and Chief Privacy Officer for Chemical Bank responsible for Information Assurance, Privacy, IT Governance and IT Risk for the organization. 

    Mandelaris was most recently with Talmer Bank as Managing Director, Chief Information Security Officer. He started his career in IT Infrastructure Ford Motor Credit as a system analyst and currently holds a Master of Science in Information Systems from Walsh College of Business and maintains several certifications as C|CISO, CISM, CRISC, CISA, PMP, MCSA, ITILv3, Six Sigma Greenbelt, MCP and CNA.
