  • Joe Cannella

    Joe Cannella has spent his entire career in Information Systems working with medium-sized manufacturers across many industries. He is an experienced IS executive with extensive experience leading people, setting vision, and managing large projects and budgets. Joe is known for developing results-oriented teams and creating and executing an IT vision that addresses business needs. He possesses a broad and deep expertise in manufacturing systems and processes. He was recognized by his peers as a Finalist in the 2019 Chicago ORBIE CIO of the Year, and nominated for Chicago CIO of the Year in 2016, 2018, and 2019 by The Executives’ Club of Chicago, AITP, and SIM.

    In 2005 he was hired by Tempel Steel Company to lead their world-wide Oracle EBS implementation. In 2009, he was promoted to lead IS world-wide where he is currently the Chief Information Officer managing a team of 20 employees and 14 service providers. Tempel is a privately held global company founded in 1945 in Chicago with 2100 employees and is one of the world’s leading independent manufacturers of magnetic laminations used for motors, generators, pumps, transformers, and other electrically powered applications.

    Prior to Tempel, Joe spent twenty years in a consulting firm that specialized in systems and operations improvement for mid-sized manufacturers. He started as a systems programmer and designer, advanced to project manager, became a partner, and eventually led the firm as president.

    Joe has taught Materials Management, Supply Chain Management, Lean Manufacturing, and Information Technology classes at the college level and for many companies. He has published articles on Systems Planning and Implementation, ERP Optimization, and Advanced Systems Technologies for Manufacturers; and has been a frequent speaker APICS, IMA, CAMP IT, TEPEE, SIM, and as an independent expert for many software vendors.

    He believes that honesty, integrity, continuing education, and mentoring are key in building professional and personal relationships. He is a member of the SIM, TEPEE, and GSN, and has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science and Business Management from Northeastern Illinois University, and is Certified in Production and Inventory Control (CPIM) by the American Production and Control Society (APICS).

  • Elisabeth Case

    Elisabeth Case is the cyber advisory leader and the commercial and technology E&O product leader within Marsh’s Cyber Center of Excellence. She is responsible for overseeing a full range of advisory and placement services to clients with complex cyber and technology risks throughout the country. In addition, Elisabeth serves as the senior cyber and E&O advisor for some of Marsh’s largest clients.

    Elisabeth returned to Marsh in 2012 after a hiatus as the chief underwriting officer of CNA’s Communications, Media and Technology Industry Practice. Prior to CNA, Elisabeth spent five years at Marsh as a placement and advisory specialist in Marsh’s Communications, Media and Technology Practice.

    In 1997, Elisabeth joined The St. Paul Companies as an underwriter and underwriting director in their Technology Industry Practice. At St. Paul, Elisabeth’s responsibilities included the development of forms and coverages for the unique exposures technology clients face, and helped draft St. Paul’s earliest cyber insurance products. Prior to St. Paul Companies, Elisabeth spent the first 10 years of her career in various underwriting and leadership roles at Chubb.

    Since 1987, Elisabeth has developed cutting edge, cost-effective insurance policies and programs that meet the needs that all firms face in the rapidly evolving exposure landscape of the digital age.  BS in psychology, University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.

    Ron Guerrier serves as the Global Chief Information Officer for HP Inc. This role is responsible for further building out a world-class IT organization, to deliver and enable the highest levels of productivity for over 70,000 employees, contractors and partners around the globe. Responsible for developing and overseeing a comprehensive approach to digitization across HP Inc., while delivering an unrelenting focus on process automation and continuous process improvement while ensuring a positive end-user experience. 

    Guerrier has more than 25 years of experience managing technology in the both the public and private sector across various industries. Most recently, he served as the CIO and Secretary of Innovation & Technology for the State of Illinois, held the position of CIO at Express Scripts, the nation's largest pharmacy benefit manager, and functioned in the same role at Farmers Insurance Group from 2015 to 2018. Prior to that, Guerrier spent 19 years at Toyota North America, rising to vice president and chief information officer for the Financial Services division. 

    Guerrier earned a bachelor’s degree in economics and finance from the University of Illinois at UrbanaChampaign, and a master’s degree in operations management and supervision from North Park University. In addition, he has earned a certificate in IT management from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, an executive certificate in developing organizational innovation from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology – Sloan School of Management, a certificate in innovation from the University of California, Berkeley; and a certificate in IT performance management from Boston University Questrom School of Business.  

    Guerrier serves as the Chairman Emeritus of the Board for Innovate @UCLA and is the Executive Adviser for STEM Advantage, a non-profit organization that opens doors for young women and underserved communities to pursue their dreams of a career in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Guerrier sits on the Board of Directors of SBP (SBPUSA.org), an organization which assists with the rebuilding of homes and restoring lives after natural disasters.   
    Throughout his career, Guerrier has earned numerous honors and awards, including the 2019 & 2020 Crane’s Top50 Award, 2019 & 2020 Top Technology Executive to Watch from HMG Strategy, Gartner’s 2018 CIO Breakaway Leader of the Year, 2018 CIO Digital Edge50 Award, LA Business Journal’s CIO Lifetime Achievement Award, 3x CIO100 Award recipient, 2020 Orbie Chicago CIO of the Year, 2020 StateScoop State Executive of the Year, and was included in the Black Enterprise Most Powerful Executives in Corporate America List in 2018. Prior to that she held several leadership positions at Novartis as the Americas CIO for Alcon, Global Head of Commercial IT Operations and Global Head of Compliance Services & Information Management. She has more than 20 years of experience across the Life Sciences industry as well as in consulting.  Anjana has had the opportunity to take on some tough challenges and successfully drive large scale transformations throughout her career journey.  She is known for being a change catalyst with a penchant for inspiring, motivating and coaching teams to achieve uncommon results.

    Anjana strongly believes that information is a strategic asset that should be leveraged as a competitive differentiator. She has presented her ideas at various conferences and written articles about it.

    Anjana has an MBA from the Wharton School and a B.S. in Computer Science Engineering from Bangalore University, India.

    Ahmed Jamil is a member of the firm’s technology officers practice and leads the firm’s global cyber security practice. He has deep experience the past several years advising organizations on technology leadership, recruiting CIOs and other technology/security leaders to multi-national and Global Fortune 1000 companies across industries. Ahmed also leads financial officer and CFO assignments, mainly for technology and PE sponsored companies. He is based in Chicago.

    Before joining the firm, Ahmed spent several years at CME Group (formerly the Chicago Mercantile Exchange). Most recently, he spearheaded technology and innovation efforts in CME's data business. Ahmed had previously served as the Chief of Staff to the CEO, working cross-functionally to deliver on major internal programs and initiatives. Before that, he led the company’s enterprise risk management function. Earlier in his career, Ahmed spent four years in EY’s risk advisory services business, working in both audit and technology advisory.

    Daphne E. Jones is an accomplished and seasoned executive with extensive experience using digital technologies strategically, entrepreneurially, and globally within multi-national corporations. She has over thirty years of experience in general management and executive level roles at IBM, Johnson & Johnson, Hospira (now Pfizer) and General Electric. During her tenure at GE, she served as: SVP for Future of Work, SVP & CIO.  She ran IT for Product Engineering, Imaging, and Ultrasound, and was Senior Executive & CIO For Global Services – all comprising a $13B segment within GE Healthcare.

    Prior to GE Healthcare, her early career days were spent at IBM and Johnson & Johnson as an IT Executive followed by her role as a Corporate Officer, SVP & CIO at Hospira, Inc. a  $5B global pharmaceutical and infusion technology company.  She was the first woman and African American to report to the Chairman of the Board with accountability for all aspects of Hospira’s enterprise, cyber, digital & analytics technology. A driver of change acceleration and leadership development, her career has been spent using digital technologies to transform business models, distribution channels and products. 

    Daphne serves on the board of directors for AMN Healthcare, Inc., Barnes Group Inc, and Masonite International Corp and is regarded as an authority on how to prepare for and land a corporate board seat.  She is the recipient of the University of West Indies’ Luminary Award,  was named one of Illinois’ Most Powerful and Influential Women by the National Diversity Council, and was Computerworld Premier 100 CIO.   She is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), Accenture Cybersecurity Women’s Council, The Digital Directors Network (DDN), and Executive Leadership Council (ELC). 

    Daphne’s contemporary experience and thought-leadership helps drive innovation globally; enabling business transformation across major industries.  A corporate advisor, mentor and budding author; her inspiring life story from poverty to executive leadership has made her a sought after speaker and consultant.

    Daphne earned her MBA and BS from Illinois State University.

    Tony Leng is a Managing Director of Diversified Search and leads the firm’s Digital Transformation and CIO practice from its San Francisco office.  Previously, Tony was Managing Partner of Hodge Partners. Tony has conducted many “C” level searches for organizations where leaders are transforming/building organizations that are taking advantage of digital technologies.  He has conducted “C” level searches conducted for organizations such as Aurora Healthcare, Axalta, Catholic Health Initiatives, Blue Shield of California, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, Delta Dental, Dignity Health, Esurance, Kaiser Permanente, Novant Health, PG&E, Polycom, Sutter Health, Symmetricom, TE Connectivity, and Wellmark. 

    Prior to his executive search experience, Tony was a Board member of three public companies and CEO of a $600 million Public Company. Before that, Tony ran a $1 billion division of a telephone company focused on corporate users and had responsibility for all data services and networking products. While at the telephone company, he was founder and Chairman of its ISP and a board member of its 2 million-subscriber cell phone subsidiary. 

    Tony uses his operating experience from being a CEO, financial background as a CPA and CA, and technical knowledge from the work that he has done for Tech companies to drill down and understand at a nuanced level what his clients are seeking to achieve as they build their teams. He has written numerous papers on technology leadership and the challenges facing technology leaders today and authors a blog, ‘Resources for the Modern CIO” (www.tonyleng.com).

    The core of Tony’s consulting has been with senior leaders who are seeking to transform their organizations as they face a future of rapid change, digitization, regulation, shifting markets, and increasingly connected and informed customers.

Prior to joining Russell Reynolds Associates, John spent several years with Ernst & Young as a Senior Manager, Business Advisory. There, he managed a range of business and technology transformation initiatives for Fortune 500 clients across industries. Before this, he spent four years with BearingPoint Inc. as a Manager, Management Consulting. John's work there included helping a major client develop a company-wide, cross-functional merger integration methodology that aimed to boost speed of target integration, increase cross-functional collaboration, and capture merger synergies. John began his career as a Senior Procurement Specialist at KBR, Inc. in the Middle East. John received his B.S. from Illinois State University.

    Susan Malisch currently serves as Vice President and Chief Information Officer for Loyola University Chicago. In this capacity, Susan leads the development and implementation of the University’s information technology (IT) strategic direction, and delivers IT services that support student learning, faculty research and teaching, administrative processes, and public service. Prior to joining Loyola, she held technology leadership roles at Novell, Cambridge Technology Partners, UCLA, and ATT (formerly Southwestern Bell Communications). Ms. Malisch was the recipient of the 2010 CIO of the Year award from the Executives Club of Chicago and the Association of IT Professionals. Ms. Malisch is the current President for the Chicago Chapter of the Society of Information Management and volunteers with a number of educational and professional organizations. Ms. Malisch earned a B.S.B.A. degree in Computer Information Systems from Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Missouri.

    Paul E. Martin is senior vice president and chief information officer for Baxter International, where he has global responsibility for the information technology strategy, operations, processes and team supporting Baxter’s business worldwide. He joined Baxter in 2011 from Rexam PLC, the U.K.- based packaging manufacturing, where he held the position of group chief information officer. During his 11-year tenure with Rexam, Martin served in a variety of key senior management positions, including vice president and CIO, Beverage Can Americas, and head of information technology for American National Can (acquired by Rexam PLC). Prior to Rexam, Martin held IT leadership positions at the CIT Group, BNSF Railway and Frito-Lay Inc.

    Martin has served as a board of director of Unisys Corporation since April 2017. In 2016, he was appointed to the board of directors at Baxter Credit Union, and the board of trustees at Rush University Medical Center and Ravinia Festival.

    He currently serves as executive sponsor of Baxter's Black Alliance resource group for employees, which provides a forum to enhance engagement, build on recruitment and retention efforts, and increase the impact of business, charitable, and volunteer initiatives in the African-American community.

    Martin was the recipient of the 2020 Chicago CIO of the Year Leadership ORBIE Award. In 2017, Martin was named to the CIO Hall of Fame by CIO Magazine for IT innovation and business leadership and was recognized in Black Enterprise’s 2017 Most Powerful Executives in Corporate America. In 2014, Martin was named among the "100 Diverse Corporate Leaders in STEM" by STEMconnector and previously recognized as a Business Leader of Color by Chicago United.

    Martin received a Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems from Western Kentucky University.




  • Troy Mattern

    Troy Mattern is the Vice President for Product and Services Cybersecurity at Motorola Solutions.  Having joined Motorola Solutions in June of 2017 he leads all policy, strategy and prioritization for cybersecurity efforts pertaining to Motorola Solutions Products and Services. 

    Troy is a retired Marine Corps Officer with 23 years of active duty service.  His military career included roles in field artillery, U.S. Embassy security, intelligence and full spectrum cyber operations.  He served in units ranging from those supporting tactical operations to the National Security Agency, the Pentagon and USCYBERCOM.  His career included multiple deployments including combat tours for Operation Desert Storm and for the Global War on Terrorism.  

    Upon retiring from the Marine Corps Troy focused on cybersecurity.  As the first Technical Director for Cyber Intelligence at Carnegie Mellon University’s Software Engineering Institute his team conducted research on private sector cyber intelligence programs seeking to improve the ability of the private sector to understand and protect itself against cyber threats.  Simultaneously he also served with the Intelligence and National Security Alliance (INSA) as the first Chair of the Cyber Intelligence task-force where he was the principal author of Operational Levels of Cyber Intelligence and led the development of the cyber intelligence series of white papers.  Troy’s last position, prior to joining Motorola Solutions, was as the Vice President of Cybersecurity for Zurich Insurance Group.

    Quintin McGrath is a passionate leader, a global team builder, and an energetic champion for change. He joined Deloitte 20+ years ago as the first South Africa CIO. In 2001, he moved with Deloitte to the US as a key member of the Global CIO’s leadership team. He continues to serve on Deloitte’s Global Technology Executive team.

    Over his career, Quintin has led various global technology programs and provided leadership through many critical technology transformations. He spent 8 years leading the Global Application Development team. In 2015, he initiated the transition of Deloitte to becoming a shared services-based organization and now leads a global group that covers a range of IT disciplines to provide frameworks, tools, and capabilities to enable a more agile and responsive global IT team. This includes the global Enterprise Architecture, Innovation, Quality and Certifications, Services Standards and Catalog, Project Management Office, and Change Management pillars.

    Quintin is an Electronic Engineer by profession, holding an MS Degree in Engineering from the University of Cape Town. He also has a Business Leadership MBA from the University of South Africa and a MA from Wheaton College in Chicago. As a proponent of life-long learning, he is currently pursuing a Doctor of Business Administration from the University of South Florida with a focus on ethics and AI.

    Along with his determination for personal growth, he is dedicated to developing the people around him, and especially the next generation of millennial leaders. He enjoys photography, spending time with his family, especially his three grandchildren who affectionately call him GQ (for Grandad Quintin), and is an environmental sustainability enthusiast. Hunter is now working on his sixth book: 'Enterprise 2025', which is slated to be published in January 2020. As a result, Hunter’s unique position of knowing the thoughts, challenges, and opportunities of the IT Leader, he is asked to speak at a variety of venues such as IBM’s Cloud Expo and on TheStreet.com.

    Hunter and HMG Strategy support a variety of charitable causes, including the American Cancer Society, Save the Children, and Year Up, and Hunter personally gives back his time and ideas as a member of the Executive Committee of the Fairfield/Westchester Chapter of the Society for Information Management.

    An intrepid international athlete, Hunter is an ardent yacht racer, a world-class skier, and an extreme fitness guru. Hunter is passionate about ocean and mountain adventures and spending time with his sons, Chase and Brice.

    Earl Newsome previously served as Chief Information Officer of the Americas IT organization for Linde PLC, a $28 billion global industrial gases and engineering firm formed by the merger of Linde AG and Praxair, where he served as CIO. He is also a member of the Board of Directors for First Independence Corporation and First Independence Bank, Detroit.

    As CIO of Americas IT at Linde, Earl provided leadership and strategic vision for the Americas IT organization, driving key IT projects and leads cultural integration so that diverse IT teams work together effectively. Prior to joining Linde, Earl served as Corporate CIO and Vice President, Digital, at technology company TE Connectivity (NYSE:TEL), where he built a world-class IT organization that accelerated each business unit’s success with more than 350 staff, a $30 million budget and $27 million in capital. He also innovated a prototype smart cabinet that catalyzed core business growth. His efforts increased energy efficiency by 30 percent within an industrial cabinet and leveraged big data to deliver advanced analytics and recommend $10 million in churn reductions. In addition, he optimized the IT architecture, organization and sourcing strategy to enhance the company’s core competencies that lead to a more than $8 million reduction in application support costs.

    Previously, as Vice President, Global IT Services at Estée Lauder (NYSE: EL), Earl transformed the Shared Services organization into a global team, prepared the enterprise for global SAP deployment and established its Global Innovation Lab. As Senior Director, Strategy and Integration and Global Operations, for Bowne & Co., he directed the M&A strategy of the digital business unit and managed global operations. As VP and CIO of Owens-Illinois, he directed IT strategy and transformed the IT organization into a center of customer service excellence.  

    Earlier in his career, Earl served as Partner at Deloitte & Touche, where he led the Mid-America/Gulf Coast Integration, Development and Infrastructure, and Oracle practices, while managing the U.S. Knowledge Communities for Enterprise Application Integration and Enterprise Architecture. Prior to Deloitte, he was a partner at BDO Seidman and held management roles at Grant Thornton, Andersen Consulting and J.I. Case.

    Earl served as a Captain in the U.S. Army and earned his bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the United States Military Academy at West Point. He is active in several business and leadership organizations, including Knowmail’s Board of Advisors, the Executive Leadership Council, the Information Technology Senior Management Forum and the Technology Committee for the West Point Association of Graduates’ Board of Directors.

    Earl’s speaking credits include presentations at CIO forums, Gartner Symposium, the Harvard Business School, and for numerous webinars. He is also a regular contributor of commentary for IT and business publications. In 2019, he was the recipient of the New York CIO of the Year ORBIE Award l Super Global from the New York CIO Leadership Association. Black Enterprise and Savoy magazines have also recognized him as among the world’s most influential and transformative business leaders.

    John is currently serving as the Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer for Briggs Healthcare and its subsidiaries (Briggs Corporation, DMS Holdings, Briggs Medical Supply Company, Mabis Healthcare, Duromed Industries, and OmniMed). Previous positions include the CIO of Uline in Waukegan, Illinois, the Corporate Director (CIO) of Information Technology & Services at Trinity Industries in Dallas, Texas, the CIO of a US Freightway’s reverse logistics subsidiary in Dallas, Texas, the Director (CIO) of Management Information Systems for PrimeSource Building Products in Carrollton, Texas, and progression through several levels of management at Frito-Lay and Texas Instruments.

    John has a Master of Arts degree in Information Systems from the University of Texas at Dallas. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Illinois State University with a major in Computer Science and a minor in Psychology.

    John is active in several professional societies and organizations, and is a Trustee Board member for the Chicago Chapter of the Society for Information Management (SIM), and held similar Board positions for the Dallas-Fort Worth SIM Chapter.

    Brad led a broad scope of responsibilities contributing to PayPal’s ten‐year revenue growth rate  of over 20% annually. He led a team of over 1,400 providing both IT functions and software  development for operations platforms supporting a global enterprise operating in 200 markets,  24 languages and 65 locations. Brad served at PayPal for over seven years, and in the CIO role  he led the transformation of PayPal's operations platforms to support dramatic user growth  while holding costs flat and creating incremental revenue opportunities. He also transformed  how technology can enable a large global workforce to operate with the speed and flexibility of  a startup.  Brad also led the IT separation from eBay in 2015.

    Prior to PayPal, Brad held several senior executive roles at Bank of America, including leading  the Next Generation Payments and Commerce team that created what is now the Zelle  payments platform. Prior to Bank of America, Brad led the creation of a new rewards platform  at JP Morgan Chase that has delivered innovative new credit card products propelling  growth.  Brad's early career spanned a wide range of strategy and financial roles including M&A  work, turnarounds, and strategic planning roles.   

    Brad currently serves as an Independent Director of Elevate Credit (NYSE: ELVT), as well as  Hiinga, a nonprofit providing micro loans in Africa.  He is a frequent speaker at both business  and technology forums and has authored numerous articles on innovation as well as being a coinventor on several U.S. Patents.  He is a passionate supporter of building diverse, high  performing teams.  He received his MSM (MBA) in Finance from the Krannert School of  Management at Purdue University, along with a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue.  He  and his wife, Vicky, have been married for 30 years and have three children.

Paolo is responsible for establishing and maintaining Mondelēz’s corporate-wide information security management program to ensure that information assets are adequately protected. Additionally, he is responsible for identifying, evaluating, protecting and reporting on information security risks in a manner that meets compliance and regulatory requirements, and aligns with and supports the risk posture of the enterprise.

    Before joining Mondelēz International, Paolo was the Chief Information Security Officer and Head of IT Global Design for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), based in Auburn Hills, Michigan. He was responsible for establishing the Information Security strategy to ensure information systems were adequately protected. He ensured that the global information security program was in alignment with business objectives, and he defined the security priorities and ensured technology roadmaps address existing and future threats. He had CTO responsibilities for North America, and he also led the IT plant operations for FCA in North America for several years.

    Prior to his relocation to the United States, Paolo worked as Chief Technology Officer for Fiat Powertrain Technologies where he gained significant experience with security and technology, also thanks to the participation into multiple Joint Ventures with companies around the world. Before starting to work in the Architecture and Infrastructure, Paolo worked in the security area for Fiat-GM Powertrain Joint Venture, earning the CISSP and the CISA certifications. Paolo also spent many years working as consultant and trainer in different Information Technology domains.

    Additionally, he recently worked on global standardization and convergence initiatives, on large outsourcing contracts for several infrastructure services for all four Regions where FCA operates, as well as on organizational transformation.
