David enjoys creative problem solving. He began working for the U.S. government at age 15 on computer simulations at a high-energy physics facility investigating quarks and neutrinos. In later roles, he designed new telemedicine interfaces and space-based forest fire forecasting prototypes for the Department of Defense. From 1998-2000 he volunteered as a part-time crew lead with Habitat for Humanity International in the Philippines, Honduras, Romania, and Nepal while also working as a project manager with Yahoo! and a Microsoft partner firm. Dr. Bray then joined as IT Chief for the Bioterrorism Preparedness and Response Program at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, leading the program's technology response to during 9/11, anthrax in 2001, Severe Acute Respiratory System in 2003, and other international public health emergencies. Advances in data capabilities, tremendous leaps in technologies, and changing geo-economics are introducing major challenges globally for all leaders. These challenges include increasingly complicated tech-meets-geopolitical landscapes, trade wars, the impacts of COVID-19 and a slow global recovery, the challenges of bot-driven misinformation out of context that increasingly polarizes societies, as well as the risk of international tensions becoming more heated and kinetic. Yet, in every crisis there is opportunity.

While the long-range impact for companies and government agencies continues to unfold, the attacks underscore how security is more important to organizations than ever. CEOs and Board members will be relying on CISOs and security leaders more than ever to help identify and respond to potential threats and to protect the enterprise and its crown jewels.
In this executive panel, CISOs and security leaders will share their recommendations for working with the CEO and the Board on looming cyber threats, including how best to communicate these risks and articulate where funding is needed most.

The Sonatype journey started 10 years ago, just as the concept of “open source” software development was gaining steam. From our humble beginning as core contributors to Apache Maven, to supporting the world’s largest repository of open source components (Central), to distributing the world's most popular repository manager (Nexus), we’ve played a meaningful role in helping the world embrace the power of open innovation. Over time, we witnessed the staggering volume and variety of open source libraries that began flowing into every development environment in the world. We understood that when open source components are properly managed, they provide tremendous energy for accelerating innovation. Conversely, when unmanaged, open-source "gone wild" can lead directly to security vulnerabilities, licensing risks, enormous rework, and waste. Our vision today is simple. We are laser-focused on helping organizations continuously harness all of the good that open source has to offer, without any of the risks.https://www.sonatype.com/
