EXECUTIVE INTERVIEW: Succeeding Your Digital Transformation: From A Caterpillar to a Butterfly

Frank Bignone, Global Director of Digital Transformation (DX) Division, FPT Corporation

Interviewed by Hunter Muller, President and CEO, HMG Strategy

Digital Transformation is nowadays on the agenda of most CEO and CIO as more than 80% of companies are looking on how to migrate to cloud and take benefits of all information lying in their current IT systems. In addition, since Covid-19 crisis started, top 10% of companies that succeeded in their digital transformation in 2020 saw a 2-to-3-fold increase of their revenues compared to their peers. However, digital transformation is not only about technology. It is a difficult alchemy of business challenges to solve, people and enablers, and digital technologies; all that put in perspective and implemented through proven methodologies like FPT Digital Kaizen. It is important to note that most of engaged digital transformation are either not succeeding or stuck into some roadblocks. It has nothing to do with a lack of strategy as most companies have now sound strategy for their digital transformation. Most of the time, it is either due to some difficulties on how to scale up digital initiatives and / or stopping such transformation before it is completely delivering to the business. As a typical example, one may think that after having equip that factory with the latest IoT technology, that factory is now fully transformed and that the goal has been achieved. This is a good start, but that digital factory will certainly bring very quickly new data to the management; but it will make that company a faster caterpillar and not a butterfly yet. The last step of the transformation will be on how to exploit all those data, and not only for nice dashboards, but to generate actionable insights that can be used to take quick decisions and adapt quickly that factory based on customer demands, supply chain disruptions and external unexpected events. Succeeding into that last step and scale-up is at the core of transforming your organization in an agile butterfly taking benefits of all the information available and able to reap the benefits of all those digital initiatives that your companies have implemented.

10:55 PM ET / 15:55 GMT

EXECUTIVE PANEL: Carbon Neutral and Planet Positive: Unlocking Value from Environmental Social Governance (ESG) and Green IT

Not only are businesses becoming more deeply involved in environmental and social causes, but they also recognize the opportunities to attract new employees who are passionate about these objectives. Technology leaders play a vital role in these efforts, including opportunities to invest in carbon neutral cloud infrastructures, building `green’ data centers, along with fostering diversity, equity and inclusion programs that extend from the workplace into the communities where their companies are present.

In this thoughtful panel discussion, top-tier technology and industry leaders will share various ways that CIOs and technology executives can contribute to environmental and social causes for their organizations and their communities – and make an impact by doing so.

  • Sonatype

The Sonatype journey started 10 years ago, just as the concept of “open source” software development was gaining steam. From our humble beginning as core contributors to Apache Maven, to supporting the world’s largest repository of open source components (Central), to distributing the world's most popular repository manager (Nexus), we’ve played a meaningful role in helping the world embrace the power of open innovation. Over time, we witnessed the staggering volume and variety of open source libraries that began flowing into every development environment in the world. We understood that when open source components are properly managed, they provide tremendous energy for accelerating innovation. Conversely, when unmanaged, open-source "gone wild" can lead directly to security vulnerabilities, licensing risks, enormous rework, and waste. Our vision today is simple. We are laser-focused on helping organizations continuously harness all of the good that open source has to offer, without any of the risks.

Strategic Partners

  • Egon Zehnder

Egon Zehnder was founded in 1964 with a distinctive vision and structure aimed at achieving two basic goals - to place our clients' interests first and to lead our profession in creating value for our clients through the assessment and recruitment of top-level management resources. The most fundamental expression of our client-first vision resides in our structure, which is unique to our profession. Our 390 consultants, operating from 63 wholly owned offices in 37 countries, are organized around a single-profit center partnership. This is designed to eliminate competitive barriers between our offices. It allows us to operate seamlessly when engagements call for us to mobilize across many offices in a country or a region. Large or small, local or global, our clients benefit from our structure by having access to our most relevant resources and relationships wherever they may reside. Underpinning this unique structure is our private ownership. We have chosen to operate our firm independent of any outside interests and are motivated solely by a desire to exceed our clients' expectations.
