  • Bridget Barnes

    Bridget Barnes is Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Oregon.   OHSU is Portland’s largest employer with over 18,000 employees and an annual budget of  nearly $4B.  As Oregon’s only academic medical center, OHSU’s academic, research and healthcare missions support not only the state but provide leadership and service with nationally recognized programs of excellence.

    With over 20 years of leadership experience, Bridget’s career has focused on information technology, information security technology and compliance, strategic planning, and governance. As a highly collaborative leader, she brings the ability to conceptualize long-term strategies while driving tactical execution, eliminating barriers and enabling cultural transformation. 

    In her current role, she leads transformation efforts in digital health and advanced research capabilities, with an annual budget of  $150M and a team of 800 technology professionals charged with the design and delivery of effective, efficient, and culturally aligned systems, process, digital platforms, and tools which strengthen OHSU’s strategies.  

    As a seasoned executive, Bridget has successfully led major business transformation efforts such as enterprise resource planning (ERP) implementations, electronic health record (EHR) implementations, acquisition and integration of new businesses, enterprise wide strategic planning and execution, as well as implementation of innovative technology solutions.  She is often brought into situations to drive turnaround solutions:  resolving enterprise level compliance issues, bringing order to complex compensation issues, and solving customer issues.  Her authentic leadership style with a strong focus on transparency, providing a voice of understanding and supporting for individuals while being candid about the reality of choices that must be made, brings the ability to drive alignment of strategy to execution at all levels of an organization.  Bridget is a trusted colleague and has a passion for leveraging a broad perspective to address complex problems.

He has been an Executive Business Partner at Experian; a Customer Delivery Executive and Service Delivery Leader at Dell; and owned a technology consulting company. He is certified as C/CISO, CISM, CISSP, CRISC, PMP, ITIL Expert, and Lean Six Sigma Black Belt. He is a commercial pilot and flight instructor. He studies and teaches Aikido, rides motorcycles, Scuba dives, and his favorite teaching is “From Chaos Comes Greatness,” a loose translation from the “I Ching”.

    Michael Chill is currently the Chief Information Officer at Johnstone Supply.  Johnstone is a leading wholesale distributor in the HVACR industry, with $3.0 billion in annual sales and 450 independently owned store locations across the U.S and Canada

    In this position, Mike leads the digital agenda from strategy through execution. A few of the initiatives underway are uniting the in-store and online solutions to enable a unified commerce experience, developing mobile solutions to get Johnstone’s world class content into the hands of HVAC technicians, and implementing enterprise integrations to improve transparency and speed through the entire supply chain.

  • Jamie Holcombe

    Henry (Jamie) Holcombe serves as the Chief Information Officer (CIO) for the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). In this role, he is the principal advisor to the agency on the design, development, and management of its information systems and technology.

    Most recently, Mr. Holcombe served as the Chief Executive Officer of Visium Technologies, a cybersecurity startup, and Chief Operations Officer for TJ Westlake LLC, a service-disabled veteran-owned small business. Prior to these executive roles, he served as the Vice President and General Manager for Harris CapRock Critical Networks segment, providing managed security services supporting air traffic management, energy and maritime communications, ground network operations and sustainment, and high-value IT and engineering cyber services.  At Harris CapRock, Mr. Holcombe led the company’s Government Solutions line of business to deliver operational excellence and growth. Previously, he had served as Harris’ Vice President of Information Technology for Global Systems and Process, and as IT Services’ Director of Civil Programs and Commercial Accounts, as well as Client Executive to the U.S. Department of State.

    Mr. Holcombe has also served in a variety of executive level positions at various firms, including as Vice President of Information Systems for the Universal Service Administrative Company under the oversight of the Federal Communications Commission; as Chief Technology Officer, Senior Vice President of Operations, and Corporate Secretary for the Globix Corporation; and as Chief Information Officer of Cambrian Communications. LLC. He has also been an Architect and Senior Principal Consultant to companies in telecommunications, entertainment, and insurance.

    Mr. Holcombe began his career as an officer in the U.S. Army where he served as company commander of the 1116th Signal Battalion and was awarded both the Douglas MacArthur Leadership Award and Most Outstanding Officer of the Year in Hawaii. He graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point with a Bachelor of Science degree, finishing first in his class in computer science. He earned a Master of Business Administration degree in information systems from Chaminade University in Honolulu, and a Master of Science degree in computer science from George Washington University.

  • John Iannarelli

    John G. Iannarelli recently retired from the FBI after more than 20 years of service, during which he was a member of the SWAT Team and participated in the investigations of the Oklahoma City Bombing, the 9/11 attack, and the Congresswoman Gabriel Giffords shooting.  John previously served at FBI Headquarters as their national spokesperson and on the Cyber Division Executive staff.  In Phoenix, John was the Cyber squad supervisor before promotion to Assistant Special Agent in Charge, the number two position overseeing all Criminal, Cyber, and Counter Intelligence investigations throughout Arizona.  John has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Computer Science for his contributions to the field of cyber investigations.

    John is the author of several other books, to include Why Teens Fail and What to Fix, a parents’ guide to protecting their children from Internet predators and other dangers, and Information Governance Security, how businesses can protect their sensitive data from loss or compromise.  His recently released How to Stop A Terrorist, is a guide for the average person to recognize and help prevent terrorism. John is a highly sought after speaker and has presented to Fortune 500 companies, domestic and international audiences, the United Nations, and the Vatican where he met personally with Pope Francis to discuss the evolution of cyber crime.

    A former San Diego Police Officer and a graduate of the University of San Diego School of Law, to include studies of international criminal and civil law at Oxford, England, John is also an attorney admitted to the practice of law in California, Maryland and the District of Columbia. He is currently a private consultant, whose clients have included the both the FBI and a national professional sports league.

  • Martin Leach

    Alexion Pharmaceuticals

    Dr. Leach is Vice President of IT at Alexion Pharmaceuticals. He has a global role providing the strategy and IT solutions for Alexion's R&D, Global Quality and Human Experience (HR + Patient Experience). Until recently, Dr. Leach also lead IT for Global Operations (Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Customer Operations) groups. Prior to Alexion; he formed the Global Data Office at Biogen, lead Biogen's R&D IT group, was the first CIO at the Broad Institute of MIT & Harvard, lead Discovery & Preclinical Sciences IT at Merck & Co., was a Principal at Booz Allen Hamilton, and Vice President IT & Informatics at CuraGen Corporation. Dr. Leach is currently an advisor to the CEO of Monocl, CEO of Beasy and mentors startups and has mentees across multiple industries.

  • Theresa Masse
    Cyber Security Advisor, Region 10 (Oregon)
    U.S. Department of Homeland Security

    Ms. Masse is a Cyber Security Advisor in Region 10 (Oregon) for the US Department of Homeland Security -Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). Prior to that, she served as the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) for the Port of Portland for 5+ years. Theresa was the first CISO for the State of Oregon and served in that capacity for 10 years. Previous to that, she worked in the private sector as the Senior Director for Information & Corporate Security at Cummins Inc., an international Fortune 500 company.

    Ms. Masse is an associate member of the Oregon Cybersecurity Advisory Council, and a participant on several state committees and working groups. She is a member of the Portland ISSA, ISC2, and InfraGard chapters. Theresa also serves on the Cyber Security Advisory Board at Mount Hood Community College. She is a former member of the executive committee for the State, Local, Tribal and Territorial Government Coordinating Council and was chair of the Cyber Security subcommittee. She is a past member of the executive committee of the Multi-State-Information Sharing and Analysis Center (MS-ISAC) and served as a co-chair of the mentoring program.  Theresa has a CISSP and a Master’s degree with a major in Management.

  • Lee David Milligan, MD

    Dr. Milligan serves as Senior Vice President & CIO for Asante Health System in southern Oregon.  As such, he develops and leads the implementation of strategic plans for all enterprise-wide Information Services, Networks, Telecommunications, Clinical Informatics, Infrastructure, Health Information Services, Data Analytics and Information Security.  He is an Epic Physician Builder with certifications in Basic, Analytics and Orders.  He has served as a Director on a number of Healthcare boards including Propel Health, Oregon ACO, Ashland Community Hospital, Asante Physician Partners, and Asante Health System.  He is a frequent contributor to a variety of healthcare IT industry related periodicals, podcasts and live presentations. 

    Prior to serving as CIO, Dr. Milligan served in many progressive leadership roles including CMIO, Medical Director of Informatics, Medical Director of CDI, Physician Informaticist and Emergency Department physician.  He is board certified in both Emergency Medicine and in Clinical Informatics.  He is also CHIME CHCIO certified.  He has worked clinically as an Attending Physician at all three of Asante’s Emergency Departments. 

    Dr. Milligan was raised in Erie, Pennsylvania. He graduated from George Washington University School of Medicine in 1997, and UCLA Emergency Medicine internship/residency in 2000.  He also attended the University of Utah for his undergraduate studies.  His wife Jennifer is a certified PA in Allergy & Asthma and together they are raising 4 children: Sean, Jake, Molly and Danny.  In his free time, he enjoys writing and spending quality time with his family in the Pacific Northwest outdoors--hiking and riding motorcycles.

    As Vice President of Global Security for Herbalife, Jana Monroe is responsible for all security functions throughout the company, including Executive Protection, Physical and Cybersecurity, Employee, Facility, and Property security, Investigations, Safety, Business Continuity and Crisis Response.

    Jana joined Herbalife from the multi-billion dollar electric utility company, Southern California Edison Company (SCE), where she was the Chief Security Officer charged with transforming security services for SCE, a major part of the key national infrastructure.  Business Resiliency was her responsibility, including the creation and management of SCE’s Emergency Operation’s Center; Threat Management Program; Information Asset Security; Intelligence and Risk Analysis; Investigations; and Executive Protection. Jana also assumed a leadership role in developing external partnerships with federal, state, and local law enforcement, in addition to forging public/private alliances with security entities in all facets of private industry. 

    Before entering the corporate arena, Jana had a distinguished 22-year career in the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). She held a variety of field investigative and operational roles across the U.S., including five plus years as a “Criminal Profiler” at Quantico, VA. Her career culminated with Jana pioneering as one of few women in the FBI Executive Leadership ranks. She served as Special Agent in Charge (SAC) in Phoenix, Arizona and Los Angeles, California, two of the largest FBI field offices in the U.S.; and was the first Assistant Director of the FBI Cyber Division, based in Washington D.C.;  

    Jana’s awards and recognition include Security 500 Organization (and magazine) 2012 award as One of Five Most Influential Chief Security Officers (CSO) in the United States; inclusion on Information Security magazine’s list of top ten Cybersecurity Leaders in the United States; and YWCA Top Ten Women of the Year.

    Sanjay is deeply rooted in the innovation ecosystem—he was a serial entrepreneur, is an advisor to Silicon Valley artificial intelligence (AI) incubators and several startups, and a limited partner in digital-focused venture funds. He is a member of the Digital 50, and of BCG’s Digital Transformation Network, and was named by IDG as a “Top 10 Digital Transformation Influencers to Follow.” He is a frequent speaker at various industry forums on AI, analytics, and automation, and writes on disruptive innovation in several outlets, including Competing in a Digital First World on CIO.com, Forbes Technology Council, Medium, and LinkedIn.

  • James Turgal

    James L. Turgal, Jr, was formerly Executive Assistant Director (EAD), Information and Technology Branch, entered on duty in March 1996 and was assigned to the Houston Division, working Organized Crime and Drug investigations.  Upon being promoted as a Supervisory Special Agent, he was assigned to FBI Headquarters, Office of General Counsel and the Counterterrorism Division, as the senior counsel for Domestic Terrorism Operations.
     

    In 2002, Jim was assigned to the Cincinnati Division as Chief Division Counsel, Media Spokesperson, and Supervisory Special Agent.  Four years later, he returned to FBI Headquarters to lead the Director’s Research Group. He later became the Assistant Special Agent in Charge of Administration at the Washington Field office. 

    In 2010, Jim was selected to serve as the Special Assistant to the Deputy Director, providing counsel on various national security, criminal, and administrative issues affecting the FBI.  One year later, he was designated Special Agent in Charge of the Phoenix Division, where he oversaw several high profile cases, including the shooting of U.S. Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.  In 2012, Jim returned to FBI Headquarters, as the Deputy Assistant Director of the Human Resources Division (HRD).

    In August 2013, Director Robert S. Mueller, III appointed Jim as the Assistant Director (AD) of the HRD.  During this time, he served as the AD and Human Resource Officer.

    On February 10, 2016, Director James B. Comey, Jr. announced the appointment of James L. Turgal, Jr., as the EAD of the Information and Technology Branch.

    Jim is also a FBI certified pilot.

The tech skills shortage is more acute than ever. For instance, CompTIA’s monthly Tech Jobs Report reveals the unemployment rate for tech professionals was at just 1.5 percent for July 2021, compared with 2.2 percent in June.

Further complicating the global war for talent is President Biden’s mandate that all employers with more than 100 workers require them to be vaccinated or be tested for COVID-19 weekly. Some technology executives in the HMG community have voiced concerns that the vaccination mandate may force their organizations to either dismiss employees who have not been vaccinated, place affected employees on temporary leave or face a fine of up to $14,000 per violation. The mandate is creating challenges for employers who are already understaffed or facing resource constraints within IT or in different areas of the organization.
