Stephen M. R. Covey, best-selling author interviewed by Hunter Muller, President and CEO, HMG Strategy

The world has changed dramatically since March 2020 and so, too, have organizational cultures. The shift to a work-from-home environment has empowered employees who want to dictate how, when and where they work. Moreover, in a flat screen meeting environment where all participants are viewed as equals, employees don’t want to follow orders – they want to be part of the brain-trust that helps to solve critical business and customer challenges and to influence the strategic trajectory of the company.

In this compelling Executive Interview with HMG Strategy President and CEO Hunter MullerStephen M.R. Covey, best-selling author of The Speed of Trust and his forthcoming book Inspire and Trust, shares why a ‘Command-and-Control’ leadership style no longer works and how an ‘Inspire and Trust’ leadership approach can encourage employees to be more collaborative and creative and to maximize their potential. Covey, who is the Co-Founder of CoveyLink and the FranklinCovey Global Speed of Trust practice, also frames “the two epic imperatives of our time” to help guide leaders on creating a thriving culture that can help attract, grow, retain, engage and inspire the best people in the global war for talent and to successfully collaborate and innovate in order for companies to win in the marketplace.

As businesses attempt to compress 5-7 years of digital transformation into 2 years, cybersecurity has become a business imperative. Businesses are rushing headlong into cloud, IoT, and accelerating software development at warp speed, while the software supply chain spins out of control. IT and Cybersecurity organizations have been acquiring a proliferation of new and sometimes overlapping tools to secure these new technologies and ensure business resilience, which has created its own set of technology management problems.

In this executive panel we will discuss practical solutions the CSO/CISO can implement to regain control of the security tools proliferation while ensuring business resilience. Solutions range from using cyber risk quantification to prioritize technologies to outsourcing, to improving IRP and business continuity planning, to the use of Security as a Service offering when they can tame the cost and complexity of integrating, updating, and effectively using a proliferation of overlapping tools.

Kevin Li, CISO, MUFG

The global threat landscape has experienced significant changes even over the past few years, requiring fresh strategies, new skill sets, and creative approaches to communicating these risks to the C-suite and the Board along with a fresh mindset that’s needed to tackle these challenges today and tomorrow. Meanwhile, the role of the CISO has changed dramatically in recent years. For instance, many CISOs have been tapped to oversee enterprise risk in their companies – not just cyber risk.

In this executive panel, security leaders and industry executives will share their insights on different ways that the role of the CISO has evolved, why cybersecurity strategies need to be transformed, along with the types of skills needed by modern day cyber professionals to defend the organization on a go-forward basis.

  • Sonatype

The Sonatype journey started 10 years ago, just as the concept of “open source” software development was gaining steam. From our humble beginning as core contributors to Apache Maven, to supporting the world’s largest repository of open source components (Central), to distributing the world's most popular repository manager (Nexus), we’ve played a meaningful role in helping the world embrace the power of open innovation. Over time, we witnessed the staggering volume and variety of open source libraries that began flowing into every development environment in the world. We understood that when open source components are properly managed, they provide tremendous energy for accelerating innovation. Conversely, when unmanaged, open-source "gone wild" can lead directly to security vulnerabilities, licensing risks, enormous rework, and waste. Our vision today is simple. We are laser-focused on helping organizations continuously harness all of the good that open source has to offer, without any of the risks.

No consultants. No professional services. Delivered as a true SaaS offering.

  • Zscaler

Zscaler, the only zero trust platform that securely connects any user, any device, and any app over any network. But those days are over, the perimeter is gone, and network security is all but irrelevant. Instead, you need to put your defenses and controls where the connections occur— the internet — so that every connection is fast and secure, no matter how or where users connect or where their applications reside. By moving applications and infrastructure to the cloud and untethering employees from their desks, you can realize tremendous advantages in productivity, agility, and cost containment. With our 100% cloud built secure platform, Zscaler can help you make the move to the cloud, securely.
