Anthony Watson

Anthony Watson, a leading British business and technology executive, serves as Uphold’s President & Chief Executive Officer.

Prior to joining Uphold, Anthony was the Chief Information Officer of Nike, Inc. where, as a member of Nike’s executive committee he had company-wide strategic and operational responsibility for leading and delivering technology for the world's largest sportswear and sports apparel brand, globally. Previously Watson was the Managing Director & Chief Information Officer of Europe Middle East Retail & Business Banking (EMERBB) and of Global Operations at Barclays Bank PLC. In addition Anthony was Chair of the EMERBB Operating Committee. Before Barclays Anthony was the Senior Vice President & Global Head of Technology Services at Wells Fargo & Co, where he led the technology division of the bank across 44 countries and was a member of the Wells Fargo Bank International Executive Committee.

Anthony is an Independent Non-Executive Director, Member of the Board and Chair of the Audit Committee of Digital Global Services, a public company listed on the London Stock Exchange. Anthony also serves as a member of the National Board of Directors, Treasurer and Chair of the Finance Committee of GLAAD. GLAAD, which is based in the United States (US), is the largest LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender) media rights advocacy organization in the world. He is also a Patron of Diversity Role Models, the LGBT education and anti-homophobic bullying charity, an Ambassador for the Amy Winehouse Foundation, a charity to prevent drug and alcohol misuse and to inspire vulnerable and disadvantaged young people to reach their full potential, as well as the Chair & Head Judge of theEuropean Diversity Awards, Europe’s largest awards ceremony recognizing individuals, organizations and companies that make a difference in the field of diversity and inclusion. Anthony has won multiple accolades for his social advocacy work, including:

  • February 2016: Appointed Chair for Labour party's Business and Enterprise Advisory Council.
  • February 2016: The Daily Telegraph & Out at Work named Anthony #1 out of 50 most powerful LGBT business leaders in the UK.
  • October 2015: Financial Times named Anthony the 9th (out of 100) most influential LGBT business leader in the world.
  • January 2015: The Daily Telegraph & Out at Work named Anthony the 4th (out of 50) most powerful LGBT business leader in the UK.
  • November 2014: Independent Newspaper placed Anthony 44th (out of 101) in a reader’s poll of LGBT people who make ‘Great Britain a better place to live’. In a list dominated by celebrities, Anthony was only one of two business leaders on the list.
  • October 2014: Fortune Magazine placed Anthony 19th in Fortune’s “40 under 40”, which lists the world’s 40 most powerful C-Suite executives under 40.
