Doug Torre

Director of Information Technology - Andrew W. Mellon Foundation

Douglas Torre became the director of information technology for the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation in August 2015.  Mr. Torre's career focus to date has been on using technology to advance higher education and healthcare delivery systems.  Previously, Mr. Torre was chief technology officer for one of the largest healthcare systems in the country, the North Shore LIJ Health System, where he managed the technology and IT security organizations.  At North Shore LIJ, he pioneered the use of service oriented architectures to develop electronic health information exchanges.  This platform drives the transformation of the "billing centric" models of the past to strategic "patient centric" care management programs required to improve health and wellness today.
A healthcare industry veteran with 25 years of experience, Mr. Torre has served in a variety of roles, from CIO to nursing assistant.  His knowledge of and passion for the industry, however, have led to the realization that true disruption will come from outside traditional hospital delivery channels.
In 2003, he created an organization to install technology in dozens of local schools and shelters.  The first effort mobilized over 100 IT volunteers and resulted in successfully deploying new networks and computers all over Western New York State.  This mission continues today through Ed Tech of WNY.
Mr. Torre has a BS degree from Canisius College and received an MBA from the University at Buffalo.  He is long standing member of the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives, as well as the New York CTO club.
