Michael S. Carlin has been Vice President of Business Technology Solutions at AbbVie Inc. since September 2016. Mr. Carlin is currently responsible for the implementation and management of technology strategy and solutions supporting AbbVie’s global business areas. Previously, Mr. Carlin was the Vice President of Information Technology supporting the Research and Development area at AbbVie.

He has strong experience leading complex global IT organizations. He previously served as Chief Information Officer of Hospira, Inc. from 2005 to 2010 where he successfully led the company's technology separation from Abbott Laboratories. Prior to Hospira, Mr. Carlin held various positions of increasing responsibility at Abbott Laboratories, Citibank and Booz Allen & Hamilton. 

Mr. Carlin has also served on various volunteer boards including the Chicago Childcare Society, The University of Notre Dame Information Technology Board, and Northwestern University’s Masters in Technology Advisory Board. He has received recognition in the industry receiving the Illinois Technology Association Spotlight Award in 2006 given to the CIO leader for outstanding contributions in the field of Information Technology.  

Mr. Carlin holds a Bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems from the University of Notre Dame and an MBA from Northwestern's Kellogg Graduate School of Management.
