Omer Awan

Chief Data & Digital Officer - Atrium Health


Omer Awan leads Atrium Health's efforts to leverage data and digital solutions to support and advance the organization as Chief Data & Digital Officer.  Omer assumed this role in August 2020 from Atrium Health Navicent in Macon, Georgia, where he served as the Sr. VP & Chief Information and Digital Officer.

Omer also served as the Board Chair for GRAChIE (Georgia Regional Academic & Community Health Information Exchange), during his time with Atrium Health Navicent.  Prior to this, Omer served as the

Vice President and Senior Regional CIO at Northern Light Health in Maine, as the Associate Vice President, Information Systems at Memorial Hermann Health System in Houston, Texas and before that, held multiple leadership positions within Cerner Corporation in Kansas City.

During his tenure with Navicent Health, Omer led the health system to its first ever, national recognition as “Most Wired” health system in 2017, 2018 and 2019.  Becker’s Healthcare (Becker’s Hospital Review) recognized Omer as 20 Chief Digital Officers To Know in 2020 and as 2019 Movers and Shakers – Leaders affecting health IT.  The College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) presented the 2019 Innovator of the Year award, to Omer.  He was honored by International Forum on Advancements in Healthcare (IFAH) with the 2019 Top 100 Healthcare Leaders award.  Omer also received the CHIME 2018 Transformational Leadership Award and was honored by the CIO Magazine and received the 2014 CIO Ones to Watch award by the ClO Executive Council. 

Omer has undergraduate degrees in accounting and computer science, is a Project Management Professional (PMP), and has a master's degree in Business Administration.  Additionally, he completed post graduate work at MIT and Harvard to earn certificates in Strategy/lnnovation and Healthcare IT.  Omer is also a Certified Healthcare CIO (CHCIO) through CHIME.
