digital-gears-marc-hamer-2Depending on the source of the research, between 20% to 40% of CIOs are responsible for digital transformation strategies within their organizations.

Marc Hamer joined Sealed Air Corporation in November 2016 and now has responsibility for digital and innovation for the company.

Hamer, Sealed Air's Corporate Vice President, Chief Digital Officer and Global CIO, will be a keynote speaker at the 2017 Charlotte CIO Executive Leadership Summit on March 2nd at The Ritz-Carlton Charlotte. "Our goal is to become a technology company and it's my job to help us get there."

Driving the digital agenda demands the required technical background, combined with a flair for the art of the possible, as well as a good understanding of the business. "When you're building capabilities that are going to drive the company, they (business unit leaders) can't get there without a good IT and digital organization. It has to be a partnership with us as the driver. You have to have that hunter mentality, not the farmer mentality. You need to bring opportunities to them," said Hamer.

Powering profitable revenue growth

An example of that hunter mentality is reflected in the challenge that Hamer has set before his team: a goal of generating $100 million in financial benefit through new digital initiatives over the next 24 months and $500 million over the next five years.

"Reimagining the business is now part of our mantra at Sealed Air," said Hamer. Hamer and his team are looking at all potential opportunities for digitizing business activities, both for Sealed Air's customers and internal operations.

It's this kind of proactive and innovative thinking that has led Sealed Air to be named Fortune Magazine's Most Admired Company in its industry for the fourth consecutive year.

As Hamer sees it, driving the digital agenda at Sealed Air is about applying an ownership mentality and demonstrating to the C-suite and LOB leaders that he is able to deliver unique insights and value.

You can either be passive and feel things out or you can be a go-getter and a change agent.
