I hope you all had time to take a break over the weekend. This morning I read that Tesla has bought $1.5 billion in bitcoin and plans to accept it as payment, a clear sign of the continuing convergence of technology and finance.

It certainly has been a tumultuous couple of weeks, and I know we’re all hoping that 2021 will bring greater clarity and predictability to our lives.

From a market perspective, investors seem to have recovered a sense of confidence. The technology sector has contributed significant strength to the market, and to the broader economy beyond Wall Street. I’m optimistic about our chances for a general economic recovery and continuing growth across the tech industry. Here’s a quick look from Barron’s at the week ahead:

“Earning season continues this week, as 78 S&P 500 companies report their fourth-quarter results. HasbroKKRLoewsSimon Property Group, and Take-Two Interactive Software are Monday’s highlights, followed by Cisco SystemsDuPont, and Twitter on Tuesday,” writes Nicholas Jasinski in Barron’s. “Wednesday will bring results from Coca-ColaGeneral Motors, and Uber TechnologiesAstraZenecaDuke EnergyExpedia GroupKraft HeinzPepsiCo, and Walt Disney all report on Thursday.  Dominion Energy closes the week on Friday.”

It goes without saying that each of the companies mentioned in Jasinki’s article relies on digital technology to make its numbers. As I’ve said and written before, now is unquestionably the best time to be a technology leader. Every C-suite needs effective and capable technology executives to provide the guidance and expertise required for success in the digital age.

This is the moment in which our knowledge, experience, resiliency and optimism genuinely matter. Our companies are looking to us to provide leadership, and I am highly confident that we’re ready to step up and get the job done.

As I mentioned in last Monday’s newsletter, HMG Strategy is partnering closely with bestselling author Stephen M.R. Covey, the global authority on trust, leadership and culture. Stephen is the author of The Speed of Trust, and the son of Stephen R. Covey, the author of The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People.

Stephen will be speaking at many of our HMG Strategy CIO and CISO Executive Leadership Summits throughout 2021. He will help you find your True North, understand your purpose and help you to discover why trust is the single most powerful economic driver in the modern enterprise.

Together, we will help you elevate your performance, become a world-class leader in the boardroom, build strong relationships across the C-suite and leverage trust to lead, facilitate, enable, reimagine and reinvent your teams, your organizations, your business models and your go-to-market strategies. As Stephen notes, “trust is a performance multiplier.”

In addition to participating in our summits, Stephen will be adding value across our entire digital platform, sharing his wisdom and genius with our global community of more than 400,000 technology leaders.
