John Abel joined Veritas in 2018 at Senior Vice President, Chief Information Officer. In this role, he is responsible for leading and transforming the Information Technology function for Veritas, including its cloud infrastructure, enterprise systems and processes, and cyber security.  With a passion for simplicity, John is helping Veritas become a more nimble, adaptive and resilient organization, by employing an IT strategy that benefits customers, partners and employees.

Prior to Veritas, John served also as senior vice president & CIO at Ellie Mae, a fintech SaaS company focused on automating residential mortgage industry. During his tenure, he was responsible for all aspects of the company’s internal information technology and systems and partners with business units for the planning and implementation of enterprise IT systems to align with Ellie Mae’s technology vision and business strategy in support of business operations.

Prior to joining Ellie Mae, Abel spent 8 years at Hitachi Data Systems, as Sr. Vice President of IT, where he helped drive the transformation of the company from a hardware-selling company to enable growth in cloud-based software and solutions. Before Hitachi Data Systems, Abel spent 3 years at Symantec which he joined shortly after the acquisition of Veritas. Abel played a key role in merging these companies together.

Earlier in his career Abel spent time in IT and Finance Leadership roles at JDS Uniphase where he joined following a 7 year start to his career at KPMG Consulting. With over 25 years working in the IT industry he is recognized as an established IT executive in Silicon Valley. Abel holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Systems from Staffordshire University in England.
