Paul Tiao is Deputy General Counsel in the White House Office of the National Cyber Director.  Paul joined ONCD in 2022, after ten years at Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP, where he was Founder and Chair of the National Security Practice and Co-Chair of the Cyber and Physical Security Task Force.  At Hunton, he advised Fortune 500 critical infrastructure companies on cybersecurity preparedness, compliance, incident response, and policy, and oversaw investigations relating to national security issues.  Paul previously served in the government as Senior Counselor for Cybersecurity and Technology to FBI Director Robert Mueller, Judiciary Committee Counsel to Senate Assistant Majority Leader Dick Durbin, and Assistant U.S. Attorney in Maryland.  Paul has taught cybersecurity law and policy at George Washington University, and served as an appointed member of the Virginia Cyber Security Commission and Maryland Cybersecurity Council.  He began his career as a law clerk on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.  He has a JD from Columbia Law School, MPA from Princeton University, and SB in electrical engineering from MIT.
