HMG Strategy Market Update and Tech News Digest
Global market update and executive summary of tech industry news headlines, brought to you Hunter Muller and the editorial team at HMG Strategy.
Reimaging and Reinventing Global Business Through Innovative Technology LeadershipFour years ago, I had the honor of talking with Pat Gelsinger about the absolutely essential role of innovation and invention in the continuing success of modern businesses. A highlight of our conversation was Pat reminiscing about collaborating with Andy Grove and the incredibly talented Intel team in developing the Intel’s amazing 386 microprocessor. In his current role as CEO of Intel, Pat is uniquely positioned to act on his beliefs and commitments (see item below).
From my perspective, Pat is the ideal role model for the 21st century technology leader. He embodies the skills, vision, intelligence and expertise required to pioneer and guide complex business strategies in intensely competitive markets. Frankly, every effective technology leader today needs a skillset that is similar to Pat’s.
These are the skills and topics we focus on in the HMG Strategy community, the world’s strongest peer-to-peer network of technology leaders and executives. For example, we had a compelling panel discussion with top-tier executives on building resiliency into global supply chains at our 2021 HMG Live! Philadelphia CIO Executive Leadership Summit on Sept. 8. At HMG Strategy, our goal is preparing you for an unlimited future. Everything we do here supports our fundamental mission of helping you accelerate your career ascent. Intel May Invest $80 Billion Euros to Accelerate Chip Manufacturing
Intel, one the world’s most legendary technology companies, is taking major steps to increase chip production.
“Intel Corp on Tuesday said it could invest as much as 80 billion euros in Europe over the next decade to boost the region’s chip capacity and will open up its semiconductor plant in Ireland for automakers,” write Stephen Nellis and Victoria Waldersee of Reuters. “Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger, speaking at Munich’s IAA auto show, also said the company would announce the locations of two major new European chip fabrication plants by the end of the year.”
Robinhood Makes it Easier to Accumulate Crypto
A popular trading app is making it easier for investors to increase their holdings in cryptocurrencies.
“Robinhood is rolling out a new feature that lets you automatically invest in cryptocurrencies on a daily, weekly, or monthly schedule. The investment app says this service will let you automatically invest in things like Bitcoin, Ethereum, Dogecoin, and other supported cryptocurrencies without a commission fee,” writes Mitchell Clark of The Verge. “Robinhood’s approach here is automatic investing, not trading. It won’t sell the crypto for you when an algorithm decides it’d make financial sense to do so. Instead, it’s just steadily building your crypto portfolio.”
Microsoft and Verizon Form 5G Alliance
5G edge computing got a boost as two significant players joined forces to offer enhanced services for business and industry.
“Verizon has added Microsoft Azure as a cloud partner in the carrier’s 5G edge computing platform for retailers, manufacturers and other industries with applications that require ultra-low latency to mobile devices,” writes Antone Gonsalves of TechTarget. “The alliance, announced (last) week, integrates the Verizon 5G Edge with the Microsoft Azure Stack Edge cloud computing platform. Verizon has provided similar product integration with Microsoft rival AWS since 2019.”
