Reflections on Success – The Boston CIO Executive Leadership Summit
I was truly energized and inspired by our 2022 Boston CIO Executive Leadership Summit yesterday. The theme for the in-person event was Leading Boldly and Authentically – Inspiring Trust and Winning in the Global Digital Economy and we assembled a superlative roster of amazing speakers, presenters and panelists.
The summit dove deep into the realities and challenges spawned by the digital pivot that most of us made during the pandemic. Despite the hardships and stress, the pivot created many new opportunities for CIOs, CISOs and business technology executives, enabling them to play a more significant role in designing the future of the business and in the shape of the organization.
Here are some of the highlights from yesterday’s excellent summit and thoughtful executive panels:
I interviewed Abhi Maheshwari, Chief Financial Officer, Aisera, on the topic of “Supercharging Your EX and ITSM Strategy with AI & Automation.” In our conversation, we discussed how the the next generation technology stack is continuously being shaped with AI & automation spearheading the transformation, and how essential business-critical work is happening at the fringes with tools such as Slack and Microsoft Teams experiencing more than 250M daily users combined.
I also moderated a fascinating conversation on “Leadership Lessons in a Post-COVID World” with Ken Grady, SVP & CIO, IDEXX Laboratories. We spoke in depth about what have we learned about leading a distributed organization deliberately? The CIO was (and is) in the unique situation of being both the enabler and one of the best in the C-Suite to model and support a whole set of new skills around engagement, development, teaming, and delivery, both inside and out of the organization, and how new platforms developed in the consumer world have creative and tremendous application inside the enterprise – and new challenges that will continue to need to be addressed.
The afternoon session included an extremely valuable Executive Tech Talk on “Shifting from a ‘Peacetime’ to ‘Wartime’ Security Mindset presented by Snehal Antani, Co-Founder and CEO, Horizon3.ai. Snehal’s talk focused on building the “muscle memory” required to quickly detect and stifle real attacks. This mindset shift is especially important given global events and the forthcoming era of cyber-enabled economic warfare, where we should expect to see synchronized cyber-attacks below the threshold of war, designed to create economic pain and political turmoil.
