Fresh off its GPU Technology Conference, Nvidia made a series of announcements that position it to increase its already sizable market share in the GPU space and to expand further into the data center industry.

At its GTC conference, Nvidia Founder and CEO Jensen Huang unveiled the company’s Blackwell processor. The company has invested approximately $10 billion in R&D costs to develop the chip, which will sell for between $30,000-to-$40,000 per unit, according to CNBC and other media outlets. Nvidia releases a new generation of chips approximately every two years. The Blackwell combines two chips and is faster and more efficient than the previous generation.

Nvidia’s AI chips have led to a tripling of its quarterly sales since the AI boom kicked off in late 2022 when OpenAI’s ChatGPT was announced, according to CNBC.

Huang told CNBC that the cost isn’t just about designing the chip but also for designing data centers and integrating in with other data centers.

Last week, Nvidia and Schneider Electric announced a partnership that’s designed to ‘industrialize’ the data center business, according to Barron’s. Under the agreement, Schneider “will leverage its expertise in data center infrastructure and Nvidia’s advanced A.I. technologies to introduce the first publicly available AI data center reference designs,” according to a press release regarding the partnership.

The outcome from this partnership should enable organizations to leverage the potential of AI to drive innovation and digital innovation.
