Our International Advisory Board is comprised of technology leaders who have global oversight of technology and business strategy at Fortune 2000 organizations. David Abbott began his assignment as Vice President, Technology Operations at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles in September 2013.  David joined this world-class pediatric academic medical & research enterprise to lead the technology operations functions.  He is leading various aspects of the IT team by delivering new technology predicated on the enterprise Information and Technology strategy.  David leads a team of over 70 associates across the system with a total fiscal year budget exceeding $112M.  David is responsible for managing various IT cross-functional services for the system including, strategic planning, solution selection, road mapping/demand planning, mobile applications, ERP, BI, project management, education, change management, governance, and vendor/financial management.  With project management being a key component of David’s role, he and his team have implemented over 500 projects for CHLA.  Many of which are enterprise in nature and help to provide efficiencies across clinical, research and hospital operations.  While the VP, the IS team won multiple awards including IT Most Wired and was rated as the Healthcare IT News Best IT Department in the U.S.  David was previously the Director of Global Technology Delivery at Mattel Inc. (MAT). Mattel is an American multinational toy manufacturing company founded in 1945 with headquarters in El Segundo, California. The products and brands include Fisher-Price, Barbie, Monster High, Ever After High, Polly Pocket, Hot Wheels, Matchbox, Masters of the Universe, American Girl, Thomas & Friends, and WWE.  Mattel has presence in 40 countries and territories and sells products in more than 150 countries.  It is the world’s second largest toy maker in terms of revenue.  During his time at Mattel, David managed a portfolio of initiatives working in close concert with all departments & executive leadership to roadmap & implement initiatives related to online games, marketing & eCommerce sites, Digital Asset Management, Laboratory Information Systems, and various other enterprise engagements.  By closely partnering with digital and marketing executives, generated revenue by delivering online campaigns for various product lines.  Additionally, David was selected as a leader on a team compiled by senior executives to foster collaboration within the global IT team and create a sense of “one IT”; initiative resulted in improved satisfaction across the globally distributed team.  Prior to Mattel, David worked for Accenture (ACN) a multinational professional services company that provides services in strategy, consulting, digital, technology and operations.  During his time at Accenture, David provided senior leadership on multi-year, global programs implementing/optimizing technology platforms, business capabilities resulting in cost containment, process efficiency and customer satisfaction.  Additionally, David facilitated annual portfolio strategy meetings with client and account executive leadership and implemented numerous innovative and cost-saving solutions related to business growth & process improvement.  For one of his clients, David lead a team that designed a solution resulting in an increase of their international customer base by 650%.  In 2009, David received national recognition at Accenture for the Career Counselor & Leader Award 2009, one of only a few recipients identified for their team leadership and fostering of the growth of others.  David received his bachelor’s degree in Health Management Information Systems, from the Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  David is a member of the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives, and the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society. 

David is an avid triathlete and has competed in multiple triathlons and open water swim competitions.  Additionally, David has also led many volunteer events at the Ronald McDonald House in Los Angeles.  He enjoys traveling and spending time with his family.  David and his wife live in Studio City, with their two children.
